I just completed a several-hour on-line class with Andrew Branca--The Law of Self Defense Advanced Course. Seven or so grueling hours, with a few welcome ten minute breaks. It will be offered again in October.

I took an earlier course some years ago, and I spent a few days with Massad Ayoob in MAG-20 some time back. I am a platinum member of LoSD, and I join the blog posts that cover current trial and appellate cases.

This is not a formulaic, legal flow-chart or an if-then logic presentation. It covers self defense law, but frankly, I am pretty well versed in the subject already.

What I really liked about it were the nuances, and the very thoughtful discussion of what a defender will likely face in the event that he or she fails to avoid, diffuse, deescalate, or escape fom a use of force incident, deadly or non-deadly. Liked the discussion of how one should consider in advance the kinds of circumstances in which one would or would not use deadly force--self preservation, defending family, defending a stranger--and whether, at the end of a 20-year sentence, the defender would think the action to have been worth it.
