"When we started out, he was missing half the targets and could barely open the shotgun," Rodney Rubert said. "He practiced for years, and he got very fast, but he wasn't hitting all his targets."
That's when a friend advised the younger Rubert to keep right on drawing fast and told him that his eyes would catch up to his hands. Last year, that's exactly what they did.
I believe in being as smooth as possible and as slow as is necessary to hit all the targets. Take that extra half second to make a hit and save a 5 second penalty.
Pretty much true. That is because there is very little real (read everyday street) defensive value in a cowboy's shooting rig.
As long as it involves cowboy quick draw, with old pistols the SanFran Sickos will consider it cultural. But modernize it with say IDPA and all of a sudden it's practical Killer training, or white supremisist, racist, gay hating, kill all psycho bambi killer training!!!
Show these folks the Pink Pistols and watch them have a meltdown..
"They're gay but they shoot?!!?? Does not compute Leftist Idealist world view shutting down!! They're gay but refuse to fall into the victim mentality??!! Oh my Hillary!! What do we do?!??!!!
Lot's of great speed shooters (whether IPSC, IDPA, Cowboy, or whatever) come from a background of blazing speed early on, with accuracy catching up. Early in their careers, they would either dominate a stage, or completely crash and burn.
Boxing trainers say that power punchers are born, not made, and I think it is the same with speed at the top levels of competition.
