Got this new Sharps - Globe sight up front, flip up sight in front of the receiver and the tang mounted aperture type fold down sight.
Unfortunately I can't see much. Might just be old age, but my eyes can focus fine on the front sight with or without glasses but looking though the rear aperture everything gets way to dark. Maybe ok for a target if well lit, but useless for anything out in the woods. A larger aperture would help but I did not like the whole concept and removed it. Which left me with the sight in front of the receiver. When folded flat agains the barrel there is a small grove but that is all blurry because to close to my eye. Folded up it is a little better but still just a blurry line that does not align with the focused front sight for any kind of repeatable accuracy.
I shoot other iron sight guns all the time, the rear sight is just further forward to be in focus together with the front sight. Actually prefer this now over scopes.
Other than filing in a new dovetail into the barrel further forward, what other options are there? Thought of sticking a sight backwards into the rear dovetail so the distance increases some, but there might be a better way.
A friend has a percussion Shilo Sharps with open, I guess Infantry type, sights which would work but the dovetail is further forward.
Thanks for any replies.

You can only focus on one thing, and in your case, the front sight is the preferred thing anyway. Let the rear become a "ghost ring" and fuzz out; just get the front post to what you "feel" is the center of it. Of course, the target will be blurry, as it always is when you focus on the sights. The sight radius is so long on a Sharps, that you will be making good shots even though the rear ring and target are blurred, just get a clear front sight, and put it on the center of the target. You must trust in yourself, Skywalker. The Force WILL be with you.

On the barrel sight take a small hacksaw blade and make the notch a little wider. Altho that ladder sight won't work worth a flip with the globe front. It's best used with a blade.
If you're really wanting to use the globe front then it's best to get a "Hadley" eyecup for the vernier sight on the tang.
Also the size and shape of the aperature in the front sight can choke out a lot of light.
