Depending on what State you are in. Some States if the Sheriff's office doesn't deny you in that 90 days on day 91 you can go down and get your CCW.

Besides that though the acting Sheriff will probably pick up all the menial paperwork including your application.

If you're in a "shall issue" State shouldn't be a problem. Now in a "may issue" State it's going to depend on the guy replacing the Sheriff.

Take a very good look people.
Very often corrupt s**m bags like this decide the faith of our God given rights.
:barf:

my understanding is that in most places in NC, the apps are processed by an employee and not by the sheriff personally... so you should be ok...

I live in NC and on the application highlighted it says do not call us we will call you and when I finished with the fingerprinting and picture they reiterated this very strongly. I guess this is an extenuating circumstance so if I dont hear from them shortly I will give them a call. Thanks for all the input. I have not applied for pistol permits lately because of my CC ap and I have two big gun shows coming up.

Your Undersheriff will probably take over immediately and it won't impact you getting your permit.

Really? The Coroner takes over the Sheriff's position?
NC Statute:
162‑5. Vacancy filled; duties performed by coroner or chief deputy.

If any vacancy occurs in the office of sheriff, the coroner of the county shall execute all process directed to the sheriff until the first meeting of the county commissioners next succeeding such vacancy, when the board shall elect a sheriff to supply the vacancy for the residue of the term, who shall possess the same qualifications, enter into the same bond, and be subject to removal, as the sheriff regularly elected. If the board should fail to fill such vacancy, the coroner shall continue to discharge the duties of sheriff until it shall be filled.

In those counties where the office of coroner has been abolished, the chief deputy sheriff, or if there is no chief deputy, then the senior deputy in years of service, shall perform all the duties of the sheriff until the county commissioners appoint some person to fill the unexpired term. In all counties the regular deputy sheriffs shall, during the interim of the vacancy, continue to perform their duties with full authority. (1829, c. 5, s. 8; R.S., c. 109, s. 11; R.C., c. 105, s. 11; Code, s. 2071; Rev., s. 2811; C.S., s. 3929; 1973, c. 74; 1983, c. 670, s. 2.)
Every elected office has someone designated to finish the term or temporarily fill in a vacancy. The business of the government doesn't stop just because one person is missing.
