Shield or PPS?

I maybe wrong, but according to the specs, they're the same width.

I've only held a Shield. I was tempted and still am. My experience is with the M&P 9 Compact. I have a lot of experience with my PPS 9. As has been said, it shoots like a larger gun. If you only dry fire one know that the trigger smooths out significantly with use. I do not see the backstrap system as a deal breaker. To me it is a non-issue. Pick the backstrap that fits your hand the best and leave it on and leave it alone and it will be fine. I find the whole system unnecessary, probably a case of the lawyer's pen being sharper than the accountant's. If it worries you just use a rubber grip wrap.

The PPS is truly a great gun. But, as others have said, you can't go wrong either way.

SW has no cocked indicator. The main reason I don't own any Smiths...

Own a PPS that has worked just fine for years. I bought it slightly used for $400
with 3 mags. I consider it a bargain and would recommend it highly.

Have only held the shield but it appears to have good ergo's as well.
The back strap concern on the PPS is a non issue IMO.

It's a striker-fired gun-if the slide is closed, and you haven't shot it yet, it's cocked. :)

Shield. My pps was no good. Dysfunctional out of the box, terrible trigger, and the sights were off (windage) by 3" at 5 yards. The only thing I liked about it was the mag release.

My California compliant Shield has a huge pop up day glow orange "loaded" flag that almost enters the sight plane :(

I looked at both at the same time. I went with the PPS even though it costs more. had s&w made the shield without the thumb safety at the time I was shopping I would have bought it because it was cheaper, not better.

I see both of the guns mentioned as accurate. I am wondering how accuracy compares. I am sure both are "more accurate than most shooters". I am sure both are "more than accurate for defensive purposes". I'm curious are they 6" plate at 25 yards with ease or minute of man at 25.

My PPS will shoot into a couple inches at 50'; the Shield is tougher, mainly because of the trigger, IMHO.
