Shipping a SLIDE ONLY - legal to someone under 21??

I've got a pistol that has basically been parted out. I posted the parts on another forum and have been contacted by someone who wants to buy the slide, spring and barrel, but has made it no secret that he's under 21.

Per multiple FFLs that I have spoken with, it is LEGAL here in Florida to sell a handgun via private party sale to someone over 18 and under 21.

Since this crosses state lines, I'm not sure what the legalities are here...

Can anyone advise?

Only the frame/receiver is considered a firearm, the slide does not fit the legal definition of firearm. As such, it would be legal to sell it to whomever you like.

I'm not a legal expert, but I'm pretty sure that you can sell any parts other than a serialized complete firearm or receiver across state lines unless there are specific state or local restrictions against it either on the shipping side or receiving side. I have purchased parts and an AR upper from out of state with no problems.

IANAL either but AFAIK, the parts you describe are just parts, they are not legally a firearm under federal law.

However, there are a couple of states that restrict the sales of certain kinds of gun parts. I doubt FL does, but the buyer might have such restrictions on his end in his own state.

It sounds like he wants the barrel too,
it sounds like he is in Michigan,
Michigan is one of those states that treats handguns differently than other firearms,
Call up or email someone in the Michigan legal/government departments and ask them.
There have been several threads on the site here recently with under 21 year old people who are currently residing within Michigan who are wanting to buy either a handgun or handgun parts. Something is up with that. If I were a wise and prudent man I would just say thanks for the interest but no thanks to the deal. Your mileage may vary. Grains of salt are on the counter by the door.

The only thing you can't just send him would be the Frame. That is the part that is considered a firearm. Slide, barrel, mag, any other small parts are all ok to send.

That's pretty funny, considering the frame can't fire but the slide/barrel can. Go figure.
