I have read some posts about shipping; but, could somebody shed a little more light on my situation. I wish to ship an antique 1851 colt by either ups or usps. I see quotes from ups policy that states that one can send an antique pistol by ups ground; but, I can't find any mention of this on the ups website. They just refer to handguns and not antiques. Could somebody direct me to where it is stated in case I need to quote this to the ups people an the ups center? One should also be able to send this pistol by usps mail since it is apparently a "curio or museum piece". Does this pistol actually fall into this catagory since it is being shipped to a private party? Thank you all for any help you can provide.

JMHO, but a rare and valuable original 1851 Colt? I'd only use FedEx Priority overnight myself, and insure the snot out of it. I don't trust shipping monkeys, too many things "disappear".

Since it was manufactured pre-1898 it is not considered a firearm, and does not fall under any shipping regulations pertaining to firearms. Some states do not allow antiques or black powder reproductions to be shipped to an individual though. So ship it however you want, but I would also highly reccommend overnight with insurance for full replacement value.

Check with the state laws as to both the shipping and receiving parties, but I think you'd be able to put it (unloaded) into a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate box ($11) and mail it. It should be there in 2 days. The insurance will be more than the shipping
