I ordered a stock and a small sight last week from Numrich. The total for the order was $50.51 and shipping was $4.55. I did an online order and used a coupon code to save on shipping they gave me to hang up and do the order online.

For whatever reason, they broke up the order and shipped me the small sight first.

Today, I get a note from USPS that they are holding the other part of the order package (which is the stock) waiting for me to pay another $10.20 for shipping. There was a yellow sticky note from the postman saying:

"Flat Rate Envelope" postage was used on this parcel. It needs "3lb Priority parcel rate" thus postage due is $10.20. Thanks!

Anyhow, I think Numrich should credit me back $10.20 that I now have to additionally pay to get my package. Does this seem like a reasonable request? They accepted payment online for shipping and looks like they tried to send a parcel with flat rate envelope postage which was not enough and I should not have to cover it.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Good luck. The days of the USPS extending generosity toward the public are over. You might call Numerich but I would not hold my breath waiting for them to send you a check. kwg

So their process is to put insufficient postage on the package and make the customer pay the difference after the customer paid an agreed postage price?
If this is the case and I have to pay another $10.20 in postage, I will never order from Numrich again and ask you all to do the same.
We shall see how this works out. I will call Numrich in the morning.

Is Numrich rebutable?

Glitches occur.
I seriously doubt this is either common practice or deliberately singling you out.
Discuss with Numrich.

Worst case: refuse the package and call your credit card company and ask for a refund. That is if Numrich won't adjust the shipping cost.

I would suggest that one day, you take a trip up to West Hurley, N.Y., and see first hand what Numrich's operation is really like. Back in the 1980's, when I had my FFL, I went up there and was given the royal tour. Nothing would surprise you thereafter.

This is just outrageous!

Just curious.... If you were sitting in IHop and ordered eggs over medium, and the waitress brought out scrambled eggs, would you post on the internet if you should call her back and ask for an exchange for the eggs over medium like you ordered? I mean, have we, as a society, really gotten to the point where we are going to take the time to post on the internet about an extra $10 shipping charge before we even call the company and just ask them? Wow. That's like $.35 per day for a month.

Why does everything have to be such drama? Somebody likely made a mistake, just call them and ask about it. Then whatever the outcome, maybe, if you feel so inclined, let people know about your customer service experience with them so they either get more business for being decent about it, or get less business if they aren't decent about it.

Just got off the phone with them. They have to look into it and call me back sometime today.

Regardless of specific amount, let's look at the percentage.

Consider this is almost a 20% increase from the original shipped paid amount. That is what I am seeing. I shopped around for the best value on this transaction and 20% increase negates my efforts to find the best value.

If you were shopping for and buying any item (car, boat, appliance, firearm, small parts, big parts, tires, ammunition, etc) that had a 20% increase required above what you had already paid, would you be frustrated and post on the internet?

Can you explain in more detail in one or two sentences? What was surprising?

I would describe their operation as "controlled chaos." Or in some cases, not so controlled. It's basically like a recycling junkyard for guns. Junker guns come in, they get disassembled, and the parts are thrown into bins. When you order, sometimes you get the part you want, and sometimes not. Add to that warehouse buildings full of surplus, most of which hasn't been sorted or inventoried in years (if ever). I remember seeing a floor-to-ceiling stack of hundreds of Browning crank-operated belt fillers, in their deteriorating boxes. (These belt-filling machines are now worth almost $1,000 each.)

It takes a miracle for their office operation to coordinate with their warehouse and shipping operation. I give them credit for that.

Wow! I guess it is about a miracle to get the right parts!

Ok. They want me to pay the additional postage and fax in a copy of the receipt. They will then credit back the amount. Hopefully they will do this. Kind of a hassle overall.

Glitches happen

I have ordered recently from Numrich Arms Gun Parts (parts to make a display magazine for a non-gun Sten dummy, follower to repair a Thompson magazine, bayonet for a Mosin 91/30, stock for a 91/44 Mosin carbine). No problems with shipping. One order had to be shipped in two packages, but the packages arrived with no postage problems. I did not post about it. When things go right, no body posts. All we hear about is when things go wrong.

I have always had good service from them, either in person or via the net.

They are the go to resource for any part for oddball or mainstream guns, and their prices are generally reasonable.

I happen to think it's a great place.

On topic, it sounds like they are going to take care of you. I had a similar situation, company put an item into a Priority mail box, only it didn't say "flat rate" on it. Same box, just missing the wording. USPS told me I had to pay the difference in postage for regular Priority vs. Flat Rate. The company, and I don't recall who they were at this time, not firearms related though, ignored my requests for re-payment.

So, a little hassle on your part, but at least they are making good.

CPY,
Re post 12: No.
I would not & do not post on the Internet every time a booboo occurs, and I get a LOT of those in dealing with several companies annually.

I either get with the company involved & get it fixed if it's worth the hassle, or eat it & move on if it's not.

Dealing with Numrich is a 50/50 shot if you will get the right part you ordered.

Funny you posted this becosue I ordered some parts and a Rem 700 stock last week. Got the parts in sat and am still waiting on the stock.

Hope I dont run into the same problem you have..

A further note: Just ran across a post on another gun forum about the problems a guy had with his new camp trailer & warranty service on it.

I guess if you have nobody else to vent to, Internet strangers are always there... :)

Lord knows that I hate to agree with a squid, but I have to on this. Usually the post office would send the item back because postage due mail no longer exists unless the receiver has an account. Pay the postage and get your stock, someone in the shipping department screwed up.

Squids are OK.
I stopped off on the way home from Air Force basic years ago in Texas to visit my Navy buddy on his boat & was treated quite well by everybody I ran into while aboard. :)
They ate well, too.....

Venting is what Al Gore invented the internet for, ha, ha.
Got the stock, paid the the postage, sent in my receipt fax. We shall see what happens.
Stock fits nicely with a couple chips in the wrist but functional.

Numrich is very hit-or-miss. It all depends on who you get on the phone or at the counter. I have gone in there half an hour before closing with my item number in hand and waited 20 minutes while the counter-man just chewed the fat with the one customer ahead of me. Then he tells me he doesn't have time to fill my order because "It's in the other warehouse and we close in 10 minutes."

On the other hand, I once went in to get a stripped slide for a Beretta Jetfire, and the counter-person brought me three complete ones and let me take my pick.

You never know what you're going to get. That's half the fun...
