Not wanting to sound impatient, I am finding myself becoming frustrated by the following situation and hope to find some ideas and options here.

On 2/27, I ordered a Hi-Power from CDNN and had it shipped to a local FFL holder (a nearby pawnshop that I've used before who only charges $10 per handgun). According to CDNN, it should have arrived at the destination by 3/1. After waiting a few days past this due date (3/6), I contacted the FFL regarding the handgun and was informed that he hadn't received it. I contacted CDNN and found the handgun had been "scanned" by my local post office on 3/01. I informed the FFL holder of this and he sounded quite perplexed. He assured me he would look into it, though I wonder how many days I should wait for him to follow through before calling him back for the latest scoop.

I also wonder what recourse I might have if he, for whatever reason, does not retrieve the handgun from the post office.
Certainly the package would be addressed to him or his business and not to me. How would I go about procuring my "paid-in-full" hi-power that hasn't yet been registered to me and at what point should I presume this handgun to be possibly lost or stolen (and what steps do I take then)?

Thanks in advance for any advice you believe might be helpful!

Check early and often. I've seen FFL's do strange things over the years. Like mail a gun or FFL back to where it came from with no explanation as to who did it and why.

After 5 business days not counting the day mailed, the mailer can start a trace on the gun,and they may have to wait 30 days to get their insurance money.I would be asking for a refund after a reasonable time, defined by me as one week after the 5 working days.If I send money and don't get that gun after 12 days since the gun was mailed,I want and expect my money back immediately. The folks that sell can argue with the post office about the insurance.I paid for something I did not get and will be screaming loud and often for my money back. After I request a refund I would tell the receiving FFL not to accept delivery,if a delivery attempt is made.Doesn't that sound real fair to you?:fire:

I think Lanceman193 has it right on with the timeline. If CDNN or your FFL holder chooses to be anal about it then you might consider mentioning contacting your locak ATF office and advising them of a firearm that is floating around somewhere in the poastal service and you cannot get any help from the shipper on finding it. CDNN is usually pretty good about standing behind their name and reputation and they do not like the ATF.

I truly appreciate the information, guys. It's much more nerve racking than I could have imagined to have a pre-paid handgun sitting somewhere in limbo without any light to shed on the culprit.

I called the shipping department at CDNN this morning and I am absolutely impressed with their customer service! While both understanding and informative, they assured me that I "wouldn't be out a dime" if the FFL holder isn't of any help. However, I would be required to fill out some claim papers that according to them is needed to allow their post master to initiate an investigation.

However, CDNN did say they would strongly suggest the FFL holder follow through by contacting the post office where his PO box is located to see if they're holding it for whatever reason. According to them, the post office will only hold a questionable package for 10 days before returning to sender, so if they do have it in their possession, we only have a couple days before it's off again to Abilene Texas.

EDIT:

I just got off the phone with the FFL holder and he informed me he did call the Post Office where his PO box is located and they promised to investigate and get back to him no later than 1pm. He said he'd call and let me know what they found as soon as they do.

This has turned into such a PITA.

We'll see what happens. Either way, it appears CDNN is doing everything they can to resolve this and customer service appears to be one of their priorities. Very nice.

Just be careful with the free knife that you get if your package ever turns up. It is crap. Just a little side note. Other than that CDNN has always been great for me as well.

CDNN are good people and will take care of you. However everyone should fine a good FFL and form a good relationship with them so they will watch out for you.
The shop I go to I know I don't always get the cheapest price but I do get good service and somebody who is willing to look out for me. Just a few days ago I got in two guns from CDNN and when I asked what I owed for the transfer, I was told I buy enough from him there is no transfer fee.
