I may be going to FL for a few days. I hate to check in baggage. Can I Fed Ex my guns Glock 26 & S&W 642/442 to myself overnight to my address in FL?

I don't mind the extra expense in exchange for the trouble of checking in baggage and declaring it.

Any suggestions on shipping a gun to yourself state to state?

(B9) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity? [Back]

Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.

I have shipped rifles to myself through UPS and havent had anyproblems. I dont know if the rules are different for handguns.

A call to the Local ATF says as long as it's OK with Fed Ex It's OK with them. Apparently it's OK to ship a firearm overnight to yourself. Goo dnews because I'll red eye the flight from CA to FL and it should be with me by 10:00AM. Couldn't be easier.

Fantastic idea guys. When I go to visit my daughter, I always go to the range with my son-in-law. He brings his hand-gun, which he has a lot of experience with, and I rent something, which on occasion has been a POS. It is therefore hard for me to outshoot him.

Hmmm, next question is: what would I dare lose via shipment. The P210 - no! The P226 X-Five - No, No, No. The Jennings J-22? :what:

Well, when I started typing, it sounded like a great idea.:)

This was the policy for UPS when I shipped handguns, circa 2005:

Insure the package for $5,000.00 and that will confer upon it "special status" where they will lock it up in the "high security" cage.

That way not every Tom, Dick, and Harry will be able to get their sticky lil' fingers on it.

Just make sure you pack it in a truck-proof box -- as in, truck running over it. I'm not the only person who's seen that.

This is all great information!

Now I have another reason to add to my collection. I surely cannot ship my "regular" guns all over the country. I'm going to need one that I won't miss so much!

Any ideas of a small, cheap, easily concealable gun that you wouldn't miss?

cheap and replaceable

I have 3 glock 22, and they are all the same, half the time, I could not tell you which one I have on, without checking the serial.

If one got lost, Id have my wife re-fedex another, and be good to go.

Shipping to yourself is actually safer than bringing along at the airport.

The wife and I recently took a trip to OR. On returning...you guessed it, they lost our luggage. We got them back a day later, but we freaked out all the same.
