You just need to let her handle and shoot as many guns as possible.

My wife prefers my Sig X5 over the Sig 239 (not carrying of course), and she's got small hands. She tried glocks and XD's and didn't like those either, despite the fact that many do. So if you can, take her out for dinner and the range, rent as many as you can that feel good to her.

Good luck :)

Take her to a good gun store/range, preferably a gunstore with a range. Let her handle as many handguns as possible & find the 3 or 4 that feel best to her. Then have her shoot what felt good in her hand, there may be changes. Repeat as necessary.

I know this is picky.

I know somebody may get ruffled feathers. And if you do, I apologize in advance.

I know that all of you have given the correct answer regarding this which is: take her shopping so she can choose. Congrats to you all, and if we had an applause smiley, I'd use it for y'all.

But....

Let her handle as many handguns as possible

You just need to let her handle and shoot as many guns as possible.

Let her try some out

Let her hold them all, fire them if possible.

Let her shoot a bunch of stuff first.

Let her handle as many handguns as possible & find the 3 or 4 that feel best to her. Then have her shoot what felt good in her hand, there may be changes.

There's a theme emerging....;)

I know, I know, I'm demanding PC language :neener: But seriously, it's not for him to "let her" do anything. Help her, yes. Encourage her, you bet. Go along, absolutely. Write a honkin' big check for whatever she wants, heck yes.

But not "let her". She's not under 18 (is she, Eric? LOL) and she's not his kid.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled good advice.

You never know

My ex was anti-gun when we first married, but she came around pretty quickly after we had a "home invasion" incident (the BGs boogied when they heard me rack the slide on my Hardballer).

We didn't carry--Texas didn't have CCW then--but I bought her a Ruger .22 auto for a house gun, figuring I'd start her off easy. After a trip to the range, she decided she liked my Super Blackhawk with 240-grain HV loads better.

The first time she dropped the hammer on it, she said "Dang!" and blinked--then emptied the cylinder with a big old grin on her face. I pity the poor housebreaker that comes face to face with her and her cannon...

Let your wife pick her own. You might be surprised.

Springmom;

Ah, the variety of the English language! I seriously doubt that any of the previous posters using the phrase "let her" meant it in the sense releasing their control over the female. I think it much more likely that they meant it in the sense of: allow her to make her own decision without imposing your own beliefs on her decision.

Now then; how 'bout them handguns!

Update

CCW came in the mail today!!!
Bravo FL Licensing System!!!

We're shopping for a gun this weekend, can't wait!!! :D

BTW, anyone CCW a Walther PPK/S .380 ???

I don't CCW one, but I've handled some of 'em. They're a good gun and I won't knock 'em. I own a P-38 and the PPK/S's manual of arms (operating prodedure) is just a little different. However, you have to realize that while that "S" stands for stainless, that's only the exterior. The inside parts aren't stainless and rust still ain't your friend.

Would that be a good pistol for her?

She's the only one who can make that call.

Bring corneredcat.com to her attention on fitting the gun to the person. She should then go to a store with a wide selection and find what points naturally for her. Out of the guns that point for her she should shoot as many as possible before deciding upon which fits her the best. Short of deciding who you'll marry, purchasing the handgun that you'll use to defend your life and the lives of your loved ones is one of the most critical decisions an individual will ever make for themselves. She picked you, she should pick her own handgun.

WOO HOO!!!!! And don't forget shopping for a good holster for that gun too. CCW is pretty hard if you're struggling to keep the thing in a badly-fitting holster.

We need an APPLAUSE SMILEY :neener::D

As everyone else said - she should at least hold them; preferrably shoot them.

If you got the bucks, she will LOVE a Springfield EMP. It's a 9mm in a 1911 style; easy to carry, easy to hold and more importantly VERY ACCURATE.

If nothing else, at least let her see and hold one..... then she won't have any other choice; But be sure you have $ 1K to drop for this, otherwise don't bother.

BTW - She looks like she's worth a $ 1K :D

Good Luck ! ;)

Just bought one for my wife

...

Try and find a gun store that carries the Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm..

SAO, same nice trigger pull every time, double safety, thumb slide-lock safety and palm-grip safety, easy to cycle the slide very CCW, and it comes with three 9 round magazines.

This gun is very accurate, very forgiving in recoil, magazines are easy to fully load from NIB to the first time at the range.

My wife loves it, locked and cocked, very balanced, natural point to shoot, gun, and it comes with Novak Night sights.

Good luck, take a quick look and read here:

Around here, that's like trying to find Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and Santa Claus having mocha latte at Starbucks. :(:(:(

If I could find one of those I would *love* to have one, but they are just not to be found around here. I'd have to trade in something for it (no more space in the safe, lol) but it'd be worth it.

I understand .. SpringMom

...

I feel your pain SM, as they are beauty's..

No trade needed, as my small wall safe, held 5 guns perfectly, and all the magazines, and money, documents, etc.. lol

But I found that using Uncle Mikes IWB #15, #5, and #16 at 14 bucks each, have added significantly to each guns protection, for fast CCW, where one feels comfy wearing and for keeping (in general) guns in for their protection from scratches, or from them scratching tables, etc.. But mostly from each other in the safe, as with the newest member of the herd, the EMP, I have to stack this one on top of another one, but no scratches, nor any holster wear on the guns, and there is room for a couple more, lol, in this small, 12" x 14" x 11" (height) cabinet wall-mounted, with one shelf, safe.

Hope your travels in the near future cross with one of these little beauty's, as I really can't say enough good things about them, nor my complete satisfaction and belief in the gun both in reliability, and accuracy, straight out of the box, new.

I would say that you should let her shoot as many different firearms as possible.

I know you may hear that she should carry a certain minimal caliber, but I think she would better served by carrying the one she can shoot well.

What I mean is that if she can shoot a Kel Tec P32 well, but not a P3AT .380 or 38 special, then by all means, she should carry the P32.
This doesn't mean that she can't practice with other weapons and eventually move up as she gets comfortable...

Hope this helps...

God Bless,
Doc S

We drag out an example of as many handguns as possible when a new shooter comes to the house. Since there's usually several folks over shooting that almost always includes at least representatives of 1911 (single and double stack), BHP, CZ-75 and Glock. Often there are other handguns as well. I quit being surprised by what fit which person a while back after helping several folks pick guns. A large muscular FMA instructor fit a CZ-75 9mm while his wife fit a 1911 single stack 9mm. The small frame wife of a nearly 7 ft. tall buddy of mine fit a P13 (as he did) and preferred it to a 9mm. A BLP fit the brother of my daughter's Sifu while the Sifu fit a CZ-75. You just can't tell until you lay them out and see what the individual points and you can't make a gun that doesn't fit a new shooter work as well for them as one that does.

who is the tall ugly broad in that picture, ewwwww scary , hahahahaha

Here is a novel idea, how about going with her and she picks out her own weapon, you stay out of it.

Im283, Have you read the rest of this thread yet?

This is on the list of inevitabilities in threads in that goofy thread we've had running.

Would that be a good pistol for her?

Not likely, I once owned a PPK/S and didn't get along well with it at all, the recoil is more pronouned than more modern guns and it tended to twist in my grip.

I find the S&W M&P 9c a much better pistol for me, but a bit chunky.

My wife likes the grip on the S&W Sigma 9VE, but it is a relatively large pistol. She also liked the small Hoague grips on aRuger SP-101 in .22 LR. but now prefers the Sigma.

Who notes the cornered cat site is approved by my wife.

Small correction

The "S" in "PPK/S" does not stand for "stainless". The PPK/S is a different firearm from the PPK; it's basically a PPK slide and barrel on a modified PP frame, which is slightly taller than the PPK frame. It was intended to get around some "Saturday Night Special" laws from some years ago. It seems the PPK was too small to make the cut.

Last weekend a lovely and intelligent lady who is a long time friend went with me to the local gun show with me to serve as her technical advisor. She didn't like the fit of a Glock from having shot one, and wanted a 9X19mm not too fat in the grip. After looking at about 10 guns and racking the slides she narrowed it down to a H&K or a single stack Sig, then went back and looked at both again 2 or 3 times. Her final choice was the Sig. She bought 5 boxes of fmj at a great price for practice and a box of fightin' ammo. May I suggest taking the lady to a gun show where she can see a variety and make an informed decision. Then take her to the range and help her learn. My friend had already been to Insights, so she was not uninformed and has a good basis for improving her skills. She also has the warrior mindset and will not allow herself to be a victim. Hopefully your lady has no qualms about dealing with a threat.
