Shoot your Safe Queen Club

I know how you feel! You should hire or find volunteers to shoot your guns! That’s what I would do… also get them to clean it
I've learned the hard way never to let other people mess with my guns.

The worst example was when I was persuaded to take my M60 machine gun (adapted for blanks) to a timeline demonstration at the Soldiers' Home in DC. Two actual VN vets were supposed to do the firing demonstration (with me watching, of course). Well, when there was a jam -- which is common when firing blanks -- they followed their training, stood the gun on its butt, and stomped on the charging handle. This resulted in a bent charging handle and a dented receiver channel. I fixed it, but the gun will never be the same.

This just goes to show that people's attitudes are different when they don't have skin in the game, such as when the gun is provided by Uncle Sam (or some naive collector).

Keep in mind that this is at least a $35,000 gun. Probably a lot more.

wholly heck is all that comes to mind! and good point too! Nobody cares for your gun like you do

Took my 17.7” stainless Ballistic Advantage AR-15 to the range yesterday. It’s been gathering dust since I built three others with higher quality barrels - Ultramatch, Noveske and Larue. I’d forgotten why I like the BA so much. With the 31 ounce barrel it is lighter and better balanced than most of my other ARs. A 3-9 Trijicon Aimpoint I had no other use for keeps the package light. Will be a good loaner for the hunters in my family.

Got me a couple safe queens, nothing wrong with that if they are worth it. Ever see how much some old safe queens being sold go for vs the not safe queen? Lots $$$$

I think a full auto M60 trasferable is over the $100,000 range! Now THAt’s EXPENSIVE

For out pleasure… you got photos?

I have 2 SQ's, my dad bought them while ago. A NM M1 and NRA commerative Gold Cup, I was about to shoot the Gold Cup, then my buddy decided to part with his, so that queen remained a virgin. I did some research on the M1, Springfield Armory was manufacturing brand new M1s with cast receivers (I think) they were a weak point that were failing. I hope I got the story correct. Also I have a NM M1a so I saw no reason to shoot the M1. One sits on the top shelf and the other sits below, so there is no power struggles amongst the royalty.

Not nearly that expensive -- but give it a few years!

This picture shows the damage to the receiver (beneath the charging handle) resulting from the Soldiers' Home incident. (It's not that obvious just looking at it, without the camera flash.)

I’m in the same delema! they have a New Production Colt GCNM 70 blemish for $1150 and I’m thinking hard about it and save the 1982 Colt GCNM unfired with perfect box & papers

^^^ See… I’m not perfect, I go back & forth

I only really have 2 guns I don't shoot. A crappy Rohm RG-10 and a Mosin Nagant. I'd like to shoot the Mosin more, but the Rohm I'll leave in the safe. It was my grandpa's, otherwise I'd get rid of it.

If you are in your 60s or 70s (I’m 68), shoot the Queens enough to at least enjoy them, unless they are very rare, and were bought as pure investments.

Something could quickly make our shooting really uncomfortable (or worse…) , and the Next person who owns Your Queen just might allow it to quickly degrade while stored, in a garage or car trunk, or simply Flip It for cash.

A dependable family member might have sudden car or “spouse issues”.

And there is far more deception than anybody can anticipate.

I have several guns that I won’t shoot. Not because I bought them to be safe queens, but rather I was gifted them and want to hang onto them until after my Dad passes. (I once was between jobs and had to sell a Savage 99F he gave me. Still bothers me over 35 years later.)

These guns aren’t ones I would ever shoot; a couple of DU banquet shotguns, a LH Rem 700 (not a lefty) and a German .300 Weatherby Mk V that has more horsepower than I need.

Stay safe.

I have a 7MM STW #1 that I don’t shoot much because it HURTS! I should shoot it soon

Find a club near you that has Military Benchrest Bolt Action shoots. The matches are generally open to the public and are a place you can see, and possibly shoot, some very old iron.

I shoot monthly and started with a (really) crappy beat-up 91/30 Mosin. I'm shooting a Finn M39 now, soon to try out a 1903A3 I've been sitting on for several years.

Try it, it's great fun.

I painted a Perfect from the crate Tula Mosin Minwax Walnut :( it was like $150 10 years ago near new. Didn’t know better

I semi-regularly shoot the guns that I've actually bought. But I inherited a few, that while I treasure them, don't shoot. I need to do something about that!

Aside from guns with sentimental attachments, all of mine get shot or get gone. If something sits around in the safe and I've not been compelled to shoot it or I can't remember the last time I shot it, time to move it along and get something I will shoot. Anything I acquire I fully intend to shoot.

Wish I could do the same! but I’m in the gun hoarder camp and it’s hard to ever come back from the Dark Side! maybe one day I will see the light
