Has anyone tried Shooter's World Ultimate Pistol Powder for 357 Magnum mid-range loads, or for that matter, any sort of .38 Special or 357 load? Where can reloading data be found? Since my long-time favorite, Unique, seems to becoming extinct, I'm trying to find a reasonable substitute. AA #5, BE 86, or any other suggestions for a replacement? Around here, it seems like it is catch as catch can, if/when powder rarely becomes available.

FWIW; During a "shortage" a couple regimes ago I could not find any Unique. I had read about Universal so I bought 1 lb. and tried it. I liked it so much I wound up buying 5 more pounds, I use it in nearly all my handgun caliber loads (32 ACP questionable?) from 380 Auto up to 45 Colt. A whole bunch or 38 Specials, 357 Magnums and 9mm. Seems fairly available today...

When I resumed reloading a few years back when nothing, absolutely nothing was available, I was loading for rifles and shotguns, and I kept a pretty close eye on availability from Midway and Grafs as I am within driving distance to both, so could avoid haz mat and shipping. So as to snag anything I could that would work, I was also forced to get back up to speed on many of the new powders I was not familiar with. One of those was Shooter's World. On the surface, sounded good, and if you went to their website, they only ran their powders thru about 6 of the big online retailers, and Midway and Graf's were 2 of the 6. Potentially, a good deal for me. Their claim to fame was good powders (which apparently they are), and those would be readily available and at reasonable prices. The price part was right, except they were NOT available. In first year.....2021......, I can recall one short burst of supply of a couple SW powders from Midway that lasted maybe 2 weeks. Only in the past 6 to 8 months or so have they shown up in abundance, except price is no longer cheap. Last time I checked SW Precision was pushing $50 a pound.....double that what it was listed at in 2021. So as of today, supply is OK, price is up there and load data for any of them is scarce........SW themselves about the only real source. But it would work. My concern is if you went down that SW road, would supply be steady or in hard times, never? So if you go SW......go long!

By contrast, last time I was in Graf's............about a month ago........they had about 10 jugs of BE-86 on the retail floor with a price on the jug of $205. I was told by retail clerk there had been little demand for the BE-86 and if I wanted an 8 pounder or two, they might knock off a bit more. I'd stop short of saying my jaw dropped, but it was close......and for 2 reasons. First the price......and 2nd, that a sales clerk at Graf's, and the other retail customers would not be aware of value those jugs of BE-86 offered.

As of today, 8 pound jugs of BE-86 still available from Graf's except these from the online warehouse with current price of nearly $290 or so for the 8 pounder, plus haz mat and shipping. Load data for BE-86 for 9mm and many others is out there, and in abundance.

I bought 2 lbs back in October 2020 because it was under $20 per pound and all other powders had already jumped to the $30 / $40 per pound range. I wish I had bought more back then. I have used it in 9mm and .38 Special with success.

My dealer hands out a reloading guide with every purchase. For those that still read. Tactical rifle works great in .223 .308 and 7.62x39. Precision is wonderful in garand and .308. I've got some bottles that say 17.94$ times change. Buffalo rifle in my 300 grn hornady 45 70 loads

I haven’t used their pistol powders but I am pleased with their rifle powders Tactical Rifle, AR Plus, and Match Rifle. I want to try Clean Shot and Heavy Pistol for 9mm and 357 Mag respectively.

I've noticed the there is a lot of inertia in the reloading community. It seems that long time reloaders like to cling to their favorites like Unique and Bullseye even when better options appear on the market
We're not quitters...... :D :D :D

But yea, we like to stick with things that work for us, but on the other hand, sometimes new stuff can become all the rage and get wildly popular.

I grew up reading Skeeter Skelton and Jon Sundra and read about Bullseye, Unique, and 2400.

For some reason, not intentionally, I've just never loaded with them. I've never even bought any of them and only have a pound of Bullseye in my cabinet because I got it in a trade.

I started loading with WST and BE-86, bought 8lbs each, because they were available and I'd heard that they metered well in progressive presses (that I started with). I think the only "old timey" powder I use is Clays

I tried Bullseye, works well, just never fell in love with it. Same for Unique.

WST and BE-86 won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

Clays to me was “new” when it came out, and it’s good stuff, but “spiky”. When it hits max………
