Sometime around Sept of last year I picked up a jug of the SW Precision Rifle with all intention of loading up several calibers. Well so far, all I have worked up a load for has been some .223 - 64 and 69gr.

Just wondering if any of y'all have played around with this powder, and if so, what calibers and bullet weights did you use? Also, and not looking for specifics, how did it compare to other powders you've used with regard to velocities and accuracy?

That said feel free to throw down your best load, I have plenty of experience behind me to know to stick to my own development.

I ordered 3 lbs during Graf's sale last week, got it yesterday. Have been wanting to try it for 2 years, the same amount of time I have been looking for more H4895... Anyways, since it is billed as similar to Varget, I am hoping to use it in my .30/06, since I am running low on H4895. I am cautiously optimistic.

It's good stuff. I have replaced all my Varget loads with it across several calibers. It is stupid close to Varget, which is weird because there is no historic relationship there, like other Lovex powders. It is also way less temp sensitive. All in all, it's a great Varget alternative, but the price is up there now. It is also one of the most popular rifle powders in Europe under the Lovex label.

Well one of the reasons I got it was I was looking for something stable, and in the range of H4895 and Varget.

I never found much luv with Varget, it just didn't land on anything I was looking for. I also ran through a couple pounds of 8208, and while we got a couple of nice groups, it just wasn't consistent in our rigs. That said, an acquaintance was shooting bughole groups out of several different calibers with it. I dunno, maybe his newer barrels liked it better.

That said we mostly load hunting loads and we're hopeful that we can utilize the PR for some good grouping decent velocity rounds across several of our rifles.

I bought 8lbs before the crunch.
My lot# is closer to H4895 specs than Varget. Like some others, I never got enamored with Varget.
I do like Match Rifle better than #2520 (which are said to be same thing) but neither are a significant improvement over BLC-2.
I also got some Tactical rifle to load .223 “range ammo”, and actually like it. Less expensive (at the time) and lower charge weights than other powders.

Vary close to Varget in my test, all my tests were for gas guns because it was cheaper at the time, have yet to do bolt gun tests. My lots are just a little faster I think because it takes a little less powder than Varget

edit I also picked it up when it was like 190$ don’t think I will buy at 300+

Some of mine has 20.59 on the graffs sticker. My brother drives through Mexico Mo. so i get free delivery. its fun to beat the system. Garand load works just fine in my savage also.

About a year or so ago, Precision popped up on Midway, so I snagged a couple pounds. Then about $35. Have yet to use it, but it is in the stash.

If memory serves, when I have been able to find data for Varget and Precision side by side, Precision was about half a grain heavier charge, such that if you used Varget data 1:1 you would be good to go.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, I got mine when it was less expensive. Just wanted to have something to specifically work up loads for several rifles that would hopefully be consistent.

I finally got a chance to load a batch of test rounds in 1-grain increments, hoping to get a chance to get to the range sometime in the next couple of weeks to see how they do. Will try to report my findings here. One thing I noticed, is I will have to push the envelope to get factory 2900 fps with 150s.

By the time I went to get some it was the same price, but doesn't carry the name or reputation. I guess I won't know if it's equally available and close in price...

What length barrel are you working with and what factory loads got you 2900. been a 308 reloader for a long time and like to compare what others do

I am running 150 SSTs out of a Remington 700 .30/06 with a 22" barrel. Factory loads average 2900, 49 grains of H4895 (mid-power load) gets me the same, which was one of 2 nodes (other being close to max). It looks like it will take about 53 grains of Precision Rifle to match it.

I get 3k out of a 13twist 27” heavy barrel that my stand gun 155 Berger vlds with Varget, it will push them a little faster but node seems to be 2970-3k for accuracy. It’s one of the ones need to check SW with, my light 308 only wants about 2850 then shows pressure it’s a 12twist 26” both are shilen select match stainless barrels

Well, that was disappointing  4) 5-shot groups, 2-4". 52 grains had 2 touching with 3 in a 2" group high right, 53 grains had 3 cloverleaf with 2 flyers high left. Figured it was me (I am not exactly a great shot), wishing I had brought more, but then I remembered that this is my hunting rifle. I had 7 rounds with H4895 in the stock sleeve! 5 rounds that could be covered with a quarter.

My R700 and 150SST does not like this powder. Going to back up and see if my son's Howa 1500 and 150 Interlocks like it better, where I keep his at Garand levels to minimize recoil (14yo, 100 lbs soaking wet, and wouldn't shoot past 100 yards). Hoping that works, so he can quit burning up my remaining H4895. Whenever I get around to that, will give another update.
