Hey, are there any .22lr rounds that'll shoot a hole through a penny? Also any tips on how to do it? I tried taping a penny to the 1/4" wood backing but it keeps punching strait through.

Mebbe I'll try a dime, those are a little thinner.

they are mostly zinc now, I would think and hyper velocity non HP should punch straight through!

I know they'll go through quarters. Not sure if a penny is harder or softer.

The way you're describing it, sounds like you're doing just what you're asking.

Have the penny floating not taped against wood. Have it maybe an inch away from the wood and "floating" accomplish that with scotch tape and 2 nails, about 6" apart in the wood.

It is a crime if you do it with the intent of making the currency more valuable.

What about trying some of the CCI stingers or mini-mags.

wouldnt destroying federal currency be a crime?

Yup.

It is a crime if you do it with the intent of making the currency more valuable.

I thought only the Fed's had the right to remove currency ( in order to have an accounting of how much is in circulation at any one time ) from the economy. I could be wrong though.

I've seen a quarter with a .22lr hole in it. Never seen anyone try it on a penny.

You are incorrect, you can burn as many dollars as you want, or shoot (or run over with a train) as many pennies as you like. You cannot take a "no-cents" liberty nickel and plate it with gold, and try to pass it for a $5 gold piece...that is go-to-jail time. :)

Post some pics when you finally get it done. Or if you're worried about legal ramifications (evidenced by pictures online), shoot a coin of a different nationality.

me and my buddies taped the penny to the inside of a box, then made a mark on the outside of the box where the penny is. close box, aim for the mark, and for the most part we got the penni to land in the box.

That's right! A real pro can shoot the Canadian penny, which is like %5 smaller than the American one... Also, you'd be saving like $.001 if you shot Canadian currency instead of American currency. :D
