Is it possible to shoot .45 ACP without reloading? I am NOT made of money. I have lately just kind of felt like adding the caliber back into my stock. I switched to 9mm and 22s to be able to afford to practice. I was wondering if maybe there was some cheap .45 ACP ammo that you can buy in bulk online or something like that.

45 on the shelf is priced out of what I would really consider affordable practice. I would really love to pick up a 1911 for some plinking fun and maybe nightstand duty, but would hate to not be able to stock ammo and practice with it much! I'm not adverse to maybe something in the russian variety. But has the caliber become affordable only for reloaders?

The other day I took my PT-92 out. I forgot my range bag, so i ran by wal-mart. I picked up 300 rounds of 9mm ball, a package of targets, and a package of ear plugs for around 30 bucks. Now that feels good!

There are a number of .22 lr conversions available for 1911's that convert and revert quickly and easily. I have often contemplated gettting one for my 1911 for cost as well as the ability to shoot in my own back yard (rural property).

Well, you could always buy a .22 conversion kit, and shoot your 1911 frequently with .22LR. Or you could buy a 1911 in 9mm, and shoot it frequently.
But by the time you spent the money to do either one, you could have picked up a single stage press and enough components for your first 1000 rounds of home-brewed .45 acp....and from there, it only gets cheaper.

9MM is not so cheap any more with a box of 50 runnng around $10+. .45 aCP is generally $20 or more per box in bulk. A .22 conversion is the way to go to practice with your 1911 or other platform and shoot just a few boxes of .45 acp. It really depends upon how much you shoot. Non enthusiasts typically buy a gun and shoot it no more than once a month and burn maybe 1,000 rounds a year. The enthusiast or target shooter may burn 1,000 rounds or more a week. Guns and cars are similar in that they both have operational cost. You can save money by hand loading but there's an upfront cost in cash that takes time to recover along with an investment in your time putting together ammo.

Its your money and your budget and your decision to see if you can afford to shoot a .45 acp the amount you want to.

Factory loaded 45 ammo will eat up a wallet pretty quick. The initial outlay of cash for the reloading equipment goes a long way towards buying ammo.

I've started with factory ammo and saved the brass. Then when I got set up for reloading I was ahead of the game.

There reletively cheap places to get ammo but it is all relative I picked up a box of 250rounds of 45 at wally world for ninety bucks and www.ammoman.com on occasion has ammo for cheaper than what u can reload for. I am in the same situation but I have decided to just spend the money on reloading equipment. But to each his own

I have a Browning Buck Mark 22LR. The controls and feel are very similar to a 1911.

I am getting reloading equipment as we speak because 45 ACP ammo is not cheap and honestly I would get reloading equipment if I shot a 9mm because all centerfire is expensive and I would go poor if I shot my centerfires as much as I really wanted to. My 22 pistol and rifle keeps me from going broke.

I'm looking into buying cast lead bullets to reload for my 45 ACP when I get all my supplies together by Christmas. Cast lead is a lot cheaper than jacketed ammo. Once I get the hang of the 45 i'll reload some for my 38 Special and then on to the centerfire rifles to achieve more accuracy...not really a money savings because I just shoot them for deer hunting.

+1 on the 9mm 1911, I own 2, a Colt series 70 9mm and an STI Trojan. Both are a lot of fun, laser accurate, low recoil and super fast follow up shots. I do love my .45s and have to feed them, I do not reload as of now. I do find some deals on bulk ammunition at gun shows, sometimes. Another way I buy ammo is to just buy a box of something everytime I am at the WM. I don't feel the bite as much if I only buy a box or two, 2-3 times a week. What I dislike more than the price is the ordeal at WM trying to get the ammo case unlocked.

Kinda depends on the Gun in a way, as well as on you of course...

But, if any Local Ranges have arrangements with Local re-loaders, sometimes a boy or girl can get a good deal on 1000 at-a-time of re-loaded 'Range Ammo'...or have 1000 at-a-time done up to your specs.

This is always an act of faith in it's way, since one c-o-u-l-d get a squib, or maybe even the odd double-charge Cartridge, so, in my opinion, it is best if for a Gun which is not especially old or valuable, if one is going to go that route.

Or, start re-loading yourself, and be very particular and desciplined in the details, and be happiest of all.

So you're getting 9mm ball for less than $5 for 50 rds. ?

I reload .45ACP for about 3 bucks a box of 50....I cast bullets too though.

You might want to look at your receipt again. No way did you get 300 rds of 9mm for under 30 bucks at Wallyworld or anywhere else for that matter.

Lee Pro 1000 for 45ACP....$160
Lee beam scale...............$22
Load, shoot, repeat

You can pick up 50 round boxes of Tula at Cheaper Than Dirt for about $0.25 a round.

Lucky Gunner has 500 rounds of Tula for $157.

Wideners has 1000 rounds of Privi Partizan 185gr SJHP for $330. They also have 230gr FMJ $17.50 for 50.

Those may be the cheapest prices you are going to find anywhere.

Anytime you have a question about the general price range of ammo for a caliber you can check out http://www.ammoengine.com.

My local Walmart has steel cased Tula ammo in 45ACP for $15/50. Not bad if your gun can shoot it and your range allows it. They also have brass cased WWB for $32/100.

I couldn't afford my addiction of 45 if I couldn't reload. Reloading costs enough as it is. Which reminds me, gotto go order another 1,000 230gr bullets.:)

I was going to add the same....My Taurus 845 ate it up and was quite accurate with it.

My .45 1911s are now taking a backseat to my 9mms. My pocketbook can tell the difference. But your wallet and my wallet my be different thicknesses, if you catch my drift.

The guys that were shooting next to me at my club Sunday afternoon left me 120 .45 ACP cases, 50 .40 SW cases, and a smattering of 9mm cases when they left. So, yes, some can still afford to shoot .45 without reloading. As for me, a couple more trips like that and I'll be good on brass for quite some time.:D

Shooting .45 without reloading

at first look I thought he ment without stopping to reload I pictured a pistol with like a three foot long stick mag hanging out ;)

I'm poor yet I can afford to shoot a .45acp in fact it's been cheaper than shooting my
