Has anyone successfully run the Shooting Crony on anything other than 9V cell? I am thinking about hooking lights and the crony on 12v or 13.8v but not sure if safe.
Over voltage can be a problem. Without knowing the specs on your equipment I would say not a good idea. However.
Small batteries are a peculiar thing. Non rechargeable hold rated voltage for a while. Where as some of the rechargeables of the same size are not the same voltage. There are some rechargeables that have one more cell in them and they are for example only instead of 1.5 volts they are 1.6x volts.
If your a dyi guy a resistor or set of resistors will do the trick. You can check Amazon for KNACRO DC-DC 12V to 9V 2A Step-Down Power Supply Module $6.20
I have never ran mine off anything except a 9v and rarely chronograph after dark but when I have I kept things pretty simple, just rolled a section of white cardboard in a circle and set the chrono on the seam. Put a right angle flashlight beside it so the light is up on the white “screen” and shoot.
Works just like a cloudy day, no need for rods or screens.
