Finished a little horse trading with an old time gun buddy and he threw in a NIB 3rd generation Model 26 Glock to sweeten the pot. First one I ever owned and never fired a round through one. A friend told me to shoot 19 mags in it with grip extensions and it might fit my hand better. Would like to hear from members who have used this configuration previously. Is it a satisfactory way for me to achieve a better fit for my hand ? Are some extensions better than others ? I’m a single action guy and this is unplowed ground for me. Many thanks in advance.

Try it both ways.

I grip a few of my handguns with my pinky curled under the grip - it works very well sometimes, depending on how the grip fits your hand. Only way to know is to try.

The glock is a different critter than your single-action guns. It's like learning to shoot a double-action revolver, it's just different, not better or worse. Take it for what it is and you might be surprised at how well it works out.

I own G-26, G-19X2, and a G-17. I carry them with the magazines made for each gun, but only use G-17 or 33 round G-18 mags as spares. It eliminates the possibility of trying to accidentely load a mag too short to work in a gun. The longer mags work just fine with no sleeves etc. and fit all of the guns.

I see no reason not to do this if it fits your hand better. There are times when the shorter mags are better for carrying though.

If you are used to a 1911, the Glock trigger is easy to adjust to. Most factory 1911's have around 5-6 lb pulls. The Glock has a little take up, but after that you get about the same crisp 5-6 lb trigger pull. You won't be able to get a Glock down to a 1911 pull that has been worked on though.

Once upon a time I tried those sleeves on the G19 and G17 mags. After a few range trips, I took them off. It felt very akward to me, almost like I was gripping a Glock with a broken/shattered grip. Even a brand new shooter told me "it doesn't feel like a part of the grip."

I tend to shoot the G26 just fine with a floating pinky. When shooting with the G19 or G17 mags, I just let me pinky rest against the body of the protruding magazine. Works fine for me, and more importantly, it didn't feel like the grip was broken in two.

I usually carry mine with a Pearce extension on a stock mag and a 19 or 17 mag as a reload. If I ever get skinny enough to carry appendix I will probably use the standard mag.
Pocket carry is slightly less cumbersome with the stock mag but I like the feel better with the extension.

I have been packing my G26 with a couple different magazines.
I use Scherer (I think) magazine base extensions on a couple 10 shot mags,,

and I have three G 19 magazines with I can't remember the name now, magazine filler extensions,,

I have gigantipaws for hands and the G19 magazines fit the gun to my hand much better than the simple base extensions and frankly, the pistol is no harder to conceal.
15 shots verses 10, I made my choice pretty easy.

Oh, I have been using an older Milt Sparks Summer Special inside the waist holster too.
Great combination.

Using G19 mags with the A&G Grip Adapter makes the gun feel similar to a bobtailed 1911. I find it very comfortable.

I prefer the Pearce PG2733 mag extensions on the G26 magazines. Room for the pinkie in front, no extra length in back for better concealment, and one extra round in the magazine.

I bought one X-Grip G31-G33 sleeve to try, and it's ok for plinking but not for carry.

I like the Pearce +1 extensions a lot; they really do allow for an extra round and feel great without being harder to conceal--so far. I'm still learning how to carry the gun.

Grip sleeve is an unnecessary expense and weight. I also like the unsleeved longer mags in the shorter guns...

Anybody who'd notice the "weight difference" of a grip sleeve on a Glock mag is a lot more sensitive to 1/2 oz weight difference than I am. ;)

The sleeve provides a mechanical purpose, also. It prevents the mag's rocking in the mag well, which will sometimes cause failures to feed. I use the A&G sleeve on my G26's backup mags. Also use the A&G sleeve on a G20 mag as a backup mag for my G29.

I'd highly recommend the A&G sleeves to the OP. FWIW, I've actually shot a bunch of rounds through my Glocks over the years, many rounds having been shot through a G29 and G26 equipped with mag sleeves.

I don't like the sleeves because they grip my palm when I release the magazines slowing the reloading process.

I carry the 27 with the factory 9 round magazine for its concealment profile, and back it up with 22 magazines for reload only.

When concealing, it is the grip length that is most difficult to conceal.

+1 for this. I now carry the Glock 26 as my primary CCW. If you need more than 12 rounds, you are in the wrong part of town.

2 things:

1. If you're going to CARRY with g19 mags, just trade for a g19. The concealability comes from the short grip. Kill that, and you may as well go with a g19 for a longer sight radius.

2. I don't care for grip adapters. When shooting, they made no difference. The only time they made a difference was when fondling the gun. The grip wasn't affected at all for me. They added no benefits, so I didn't care for them. ut them on a spare mag and you just made your spare mag bulky. 33 round mags, g17, g19...try them with no adapters. It doesn't pinch your finger. Plus...it's a glock. Mine are ugly no matter what so I didn't even think it added to aesthetics. :)

I use the +2 pierce extension, works great. 1 mag is stock one has the +2, and one is a Glock 19 mag for reload. If I am out, I take the standard mag and the 15 rounder. If around the home or neighborhood, I use the +2. The gun is my 3d 26/27, since they were released some 15 yrs ago. I started with a 23 and then a 30, I finally sold the 23 about 4 years ago, as I never was able to get good groups with any 40 caliber, compared to 9mm and 45.

What DID make my grip better was strange. A gen 4 with the largest backstrap. I shot better with it. I found that odd because I don't have large paws. Better groups and better times.

Time for a G30!

Well I did go 45...but not g30...

I liked it so much I'm selling my g19...which was always something I said you could pry from my cold, dead hands.

Another thing to watch out for with sleeves...if they are on your spare mag, they could get pushed around and then it's all jacked up when you grab your spare mag. As another poster said, you can also fumble the mag drop on a g26 with a sleeve. I never did it while plinking, but if I ran drills with a timer...I'd end up pinning the empty mag in there with my strong side hand during mag changes.

I'm with the Pearce extension suggestion, that's how mine is 90% of the time. Sometimes Ill just put the standard 10 rounder. I shoot just as well either way.

The only extension I tried with a G19 mag pinched me so it didn't last long.

You could always just keep a G18 mag in it! Less reloading but you sacrifice a little on concealment...

If your third finger on the grip happens to put backwards pressure on the Glock 18 magazine you will get failure to feed stoppages.

Yep, same with using a G19 or G17 mag in a G26, per my previous post. I suspect that some guys posting in this thread and not recommending the sleeves have never actually used the sleeve.

The information regarding the grip length is irrelevant to this thread. As to not ever needing more than 12 rounds, that's probable, but not necessarily so. I asked a friend of mine who was actually in a gunfight and survived how many rounds he preferred, and his response was, "as many as I can manage." He was shooting a G17 at the time of the gunfight, and could have used more ammo.

This has never once happened to me in all the years of using the G26 with various G19 and G17 mags. I would suspect an out of spec or worn mag catch if you're getting FTFs from your pinky resting on the mag. Either that or the mag catch slot on the mag body itself is way too loosey goosey.

My recommendation is first of all learn to shoot it with the short mag. Its a training issue and easily correctable. I normally carry with a Glock OEM +2 but sometimes I go with a GAP floor plate. The floor plate helps with the draw since you hook it while drawing. My spare magazine is a G17 magazine with a sleeve.
