Is shooting infectious?
I fired my first handgun during the past summer, a 44 mag Redhawk, and loved it. I fired an SKS and loved it too. A few months ago, I picked up my .40 Sigma. Meanwhile, my friend Luke, who also fired the same guns during the summer, started looking to shoot more. His wife got him an SKS for an early birthday gift, and gave it to him the same day I got mine. Since then, I've picked up a Remington 597 and almost have my M&P 40 paid off. My room-mate has been eyeing a Taurus 357mag for a while, but can't pick up the funding. He's only been really thinking about getting one since I got my 40.

Then there's our friend Keith. He had no real interest in guns until we took him out and had him fire my 40, SKS, and the 22's. He immediately went out and picked up a Ruger Mk III .22. Our other friend Josh, who was also out there shooting with us (but he'd had some experience with his dad's guns), picked up an M&P 9mm right after.

Aside from two of the three women-folk not having a huge interest, we suddenly find ourselves to be a small army (Okay, maybe a small squad) that looks like it's invading the Phillipines when we load up to go out to Luke's property to shoot.

Anyone else have this kind of situation where the shooting bug starts to take over friends, conversations, etc?

Sure!

I've introduced a lot of young people to shooting, and have never had one dislike the experience. In a way, I've created my own shooting pals.

It's good to cajole anti's to try it, too. If you can get them out there, it removes the "spooky mystique" of guns and shooting, and in my experience, causes most of them to re-think their prejudicial aversion to something they've never tried.

When I've taken total newbies out to try their hand at it, every single one has started to think about buying one. Most actually do purchase.

I try to forewarn them, though...it's a common thing that they want to buy what they've just finished shooting! I tell them I own what I prefer, but that they should try different guns out, not just go with what I've let them try!

Yep, that got me hooked Chris. I did have some interest in guns but just never "got around" to trying out any. For about 2 years another friend of mine had offered to take me out shooting and I always knew I'd be hooked when I did. I held off as long as I could for the sake of my wallet!
My wife is now wanting to go to the range with me and is showing a mild interest in guns. If nothing else she lets me use her credit card when I want to buy something I can't afford at the moment! :D
BTW, this is one hell of a great site!

when we go to lake okechobee for duck hunting theres 9 of us, and we each take 2 guns, maybe 3, so we end up with about 20 guns, 9 guys, and a crapload of shells and beer :D
