I was heading to the range a couple days ago when it wasn't raining to go shoot some trap and enjoy the nice weather we had for an afternoon. I had my shotgun, ammo can of shells, shell pouch and the rest of my range stuff. About 5 minutes out from the range the song Bulls On Parade by Rage Against the Machine came on the radio. You know the one with the chorus of "Rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells". I couldn't help but laugh a little since in a few minutes I was going to have a pocket full of shells (so to speak) on my hip on the trap range.

That got me wondering if any of you THR folks have any "pre-game" music or sort of a personal soundtrack to get you in the zone to go shootin'.

P.S. Yes I know Rage Against The Machine is a joke of a band, but the irony was classic.

Shooting "music"...

Used to have a CD with the bullseye range commands--it was seriously good practice to play it into my electronic muffs on the range and shoot to the commands:

"These are the commands for Rapid Fire."
"Is the firing line ready?" (Inhale.)
"The firing line is ready." (Exhale.)
"Ready on the right." (Inhale. Cock revolver.)
"Ready on the left." (Exhale.) (The recording had a peculiar lilt in this command.)
"Ready, on the firing line." (Inhale. Aim revolver, finger to trigger with very light pressure.)
(Wait for the longest three seconds in the world.)
"BEEEEEEEEP!" (Increase trigger pressure, get the first round off with perfect sight picture, now you have 9.5 seconds to get 4 more rounds off so just do it and don't think about it.)

Got some pretty nice groups that way.

Wore out the CD. If anyone knows where a replacement is available I'd appreciate the info.

I didn't know that Rage Against The Machine was considered a joke of a band. Their song 'pistol grip pump' is pretty good music for getting ready for the range.

Click, Click, Boom.

No...not Saliva...Just the mechanical sounds.

I like music in the gym...loud and aggressive to keep me motivated and my mind off of what I'm doing.

I prefer to have no distraction at the range or shooting on my property. I like the mechanical sounds and it just isn't the same without them. Just the sounds of quiet muffled gun fire through my ear protection and the pitter patter of squirrels (who don't realize I'm hunting evil paper targets) fleeing in fear. :neener:

Always thought it would be interesting (assuming you're not shooting at a private range with strict rules; best if you have a private spot in the middle of nowhere) to record battle sounds from movies, or even better, from actual combat camera footage, and play that really loud while doing move-and-cover drills. I think that would get me rather pumped up...

I know, I'm a jackass.

I understand some people's views on Rage Against The Machine as a legitimate band. Yes they are million album sellers. But I can't ignore their political views from their songs. I don't want to turn this into a political thread, just to find out what makes you tick musically.

As I drive up to the range I always turn on "Run through the Jungle" by Creedance Clearwater Revival"

CCR rocks, I can dig that. Well before my time, but I love it. Wonder if I could bolt up a M60 to my tailgate, rig up some speakers with deep bass and download a Huey soundtrack...:scrutiny:

Funny thing. I rent my land to a local farmer for a small percentage. It's fair and I don't harass him. I'm more than likely getting less than I should, but he isn't overfarming and he keeps my irrigation pond stocked so I just view it as a little extra seasonal income. He happens to be slightly anti-gun. He keeps extending the field into my shooting range. It's ok though, it starts around 150 yards and shooting through corn is kinda fun, makes me feel all Tom Berenger-ish. :D

"I Walk The Line"- Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash is the Greatest!

Hunterbear,
You beat me to it! "Pistol Grip Pump" is a great song too

Don't really MP3, but I hum the "Anvil of Crom" to myself coming down the hill towards the range after riding many miles to get there. Every day on a bike in Anchorage is a day of high adventure! I'm just inches from horrible death every time I mix with traffic.
