My son went with me to the range yesterday and he was able to take a short video of me shooting the 44mag. I had tried cutting the unique load for 240 gr lswc from lasercast from 10.5 to 10 to see if the sticky extraction and leading will be cut down. (ANSWER- not really so I'll go back to 10.5 for more clang) haven't shot this revolver past 3 to 4 range sessions. I have a 6 o'clock sight picture for this gun hence the low shot in 2nd shot ( forgot how low to hold)

At least yesterday my son is getting the joy of squeezing the trigger with a smith and wesson victory. Unfair for him as I've set the target at 25 yrds and only 6 inches which I wanted him to shot with the cz 455 ultralux but he started to enjoy shooting the pistol. Who am I to complain. He wasn't hitting the target but at least he was having fun.

Well done. I particularly like that you were shooting double action.

That SRH seems to soak up a fair bit of the recoil.

I'd blame the swinging gong. Matter of fact, that you got hits on shots three through six while the gong was swinging is very impressive.

Thanks I really like shooting it. It's heavy and with the houge tamer grips it's enjoyable shoot. A range regular that I let shoot it is very impressed with the shootability of the srh compared to his smith 29 with wood grips.

Regarding the recoil. Here's footage from last year taken during the srh's first range outing.
My current smart phone was new then also and I had my son then 11 yrs old take a slow motion video.
The ammo was the only factory ammo this gun had seen. 50rds of mag tech 44 mag jacketed soft points. So far about a 1000 rds since I'm now starting on the 2ND round of my starline 1000 rd brass.

This was after zeroing the gun. Cool to see the wave go down your arm.

Beware the man who just learned to post videos and copy the link....
Naah! Thats all I got so far.

impressed that you didn't flinch on the last pull of the trigger. nice shootin!

Very nice! I think in the near future, I'll put away my 1911 and go back to my revolver. My range has several hanging plates, but they're all at 50 yards.

I'll "ditto" what murf wrote about that 7th "shot". I watched it in slow motion, 1/4 speed, looking closely at the gun, and it remained perfectly still.

I thoroughly enjoyed my revolver. The 1911 was a "challenge", but I think I got the most enjoyment out of my revolver - it felt more "connected" to me somehow. Hard to explain.

Very nice!!!

Thanks Mike
I'm sure you remember me posting about the Thai girl's small groups with that les baer. Well I bought a heavyweight monolith ...I still can't shoot like that girl.

This revolver is a pleasure to shoot and I routinely shoot my 10 inch gong and the same 6 inch gong at 50 yrds. Fairly consistent but misses occur a little more with the other guns but fairly same level of consistency if I'm shooting the 10 inch gong with the srh.

It's all in just trying it. I got the 6 inch gong as I wanted to get a dueling tree. Those things are expensive and I didn't want to spend the money and realize I can't shoot the target so I got the 6 inch gong first. Once I was hitting it consistently with my guns at 25 yrds I bought the tree. Shortest distance we can set up steel is 25 yrds.

I have a 4 inch gong as well but it's thinner and therefore lighter. If you hit it with 357 or 44 mag it wraps around the frame and the you would have to unwrap it by shooting it again or physically unwrap it during a ceasefire. It's fun with 22 and 9 mm though.

Hi again - yes, I remember clearly. In fact, I spent about half an hour last night trying to find those videos again, but gave up with no results. Can you please send me the link again?

How to shoot like that girl - simple, just un-age yourself until you're back to being a little boy. :)

Thanks to what I learned from MrBorland and a few others, I'm doing "better", but still have a long ways to go. It's still fun though.

I wanted to download your video, so I could watch it in still frame, one frame at a time. I might try that later tonight. If I can edit it into super-slow-motion, I'll post the resulting video here.

Thanks, royal - I thought I had it saved as a favorite, but apparently not. This time I know I've done that, and I also downloaded the video to my PC. Amazing video, and amazing girl!

As to it being worthwhile in your video, I would do what I tried to do of my own video - play it frame by frame as the gun fired, and watch what my body was doing. I was very, very surprised what this showed me. Reminds me of MrBorland's video of rapid shooting at multiple targets, when I "knew" he wasn't aiming because of how fast he did it, but in slow motion I saw that he carefully aimed each shot! He did it faster than I can even think - but for the slow motion, I'd never have known.

Your last "shot" especially was interesting to me, that nothing moved but the hammer, even after six live shots from a 44 magnum.

There are so many REALLY good things on these forums. The highlights would make a fascinating book! ....oops, I should let this thread get back on track.
