Well, i've just about finished up all the fmj's for my carbine, and i have a bunch of Xtreme plated 110g to load up. Thought I'd try them, everyone seems to have great luck with them. My question is. I'm using H110/W296 for my powders, but at minimum load the velocity is still way over what Xtreme suggested as max velocities. They say around 1500 fps is max.

If I load under the minimum powder charge for fmj, to get to the suggested fps, will i have cycling problems with the Carbine?

What are you guys finding a good start for the Xtreme plated for your Carbines?

Thanks!!!

W296/H110 does not down load very well at all, a different powder would be required. What you will run into is that the plating may come off at higher velocity. How much higher over 1500fps I don't no. If just for plinking it would not not hurt to load a few and test. I use to shoot only hard cast in my Ruger Blackhawk. It's been way too long (~40yrs) for me to remember what powder I used with lead and my manuals are not where I can look it up.

I've used Berry's in an M-1 Carbine. As the data I had for jacketed bullets didn't exceed 1900 fps I didn't worry about downloading them. At the range the accuracy was terrible. When I chrono'd them, they were going over 2200 fps. The next batch was slowed down --I think I went down to the minimum. It shot much better and operated the action. I don't have my load data in front of me but as I generally use W296 or H110 for that cartridge I'm pretty sure it was one or the other. I guess the moral of the story is that published data and the real deal are not the same animal.

At 1500 fps I'd be concerned about the load being able to operate the action. Be safe, good luck, and have fun.

That's what I'm thinking. My best loads are running about 2050fps. But that's with FMJ's. I contacted Xtreme and they said they were rated to 1500, so immediately i wondered how it would cycle running that slow.

Anyone else load 30Carbine with Xtreme 110g plated bullets?

I haven't loaded that particular bullet, but i your looking for more of a range of loads, you might try finding some 2400, or either AA-7 or 9. These are all a bit quicker than 296 and all have a bit more spread on their data for more calibers they are used in.

I have used 2400 and AA-9 in several cast loads for my BH in 30 carbine. I realize your asking about the loads for a rifle and I have tow of them, I just haven't gotten to the back of the safe to fish out those short little farts yet.
