Any Las Vegans here? I recently just obtained my very first fireram. It's a Ruger Single Sixty .22/.22 magnum revolver. I haven't shot it yet.

I live in Charleston and Nellis area. Where's a good shooting range close to my area? Any outdoor ones? Also, I bought some ear plus at Albertsons. Are these enough of an ear protection? I also have a pair of cheap construction safety glasses that I bought for shooting.

I know some folks shoot skeet at Nellis Airbase but I don't know if they have any sort of pistol range there, it might just be clays.

I'm on the southwest side of town and drive to Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol club. I like that range because they have many, many competitions like IDPA, benchrest rimfire, silhouette, and more I can't remember. They have about 20 pits that are 50 yards deep with high berms for close range work. There are also 100, 450 and 600 yard ranges and a shotgun area.

On east side of town, there's Boulder Rifle & Pistol Club. They actually have a courtesy range where you can shoot even if you're not a member. I'm not sure of the prices for that. Boulder is a also a nice facility, high berms, plenty of room, it's just too far from me. Suarez International and Fight Focused Concepts teach some of their classes out there.

Don't forget about the Clark County Shooting Park at the north end of the city. It is way to far for me to frequent with any regularity. I only tried their skeet range and it was very very nice. $6 a round, IIRC.

When I want to get away, I drive into Nye county (west towards Pahrump on 160) and take Wheeler Pass or Trout Canyon. There are also some shooting holes in the National Forest before Pahrump, at Lovell Canyon.

There are some indoor ranges in town but I refuse to enter them except to qualify for CCW. Too many Mall Ninjas and tourists. I believe American Shooters on Arville has an indoor version of IDPA which appeals to some people since there's a time commitment to get out to the desert or to get to one of the ranges, all of which are on the edges of the town.

Your ear protection is fine for outdoor ranges. Some people like to double up and put the muffs on top of the inner-ear plugs. I just use the foam ear inserts from Home Depot.

Pocket Rocket has it covered.

No place anymore which is safe, out doors, and free, unless one go way way out of town, and, it can be kind of 'iffy' then sometimes, if one does.

Indoor Ranges, such as 'American Shooters Supply' on Arville close to Spring Mountain, charges maybe like fifteen bucks, for a lane, and is often crowded...but, nice people, friendly...open evenings of course as well as by day.

Boulder )( out door Range ) used to be free, self-governing, but, I think they started charging and having personel on site.

I'm from the North (Reno area) but if you're interested in forums, try Nevada Shooter's Forum. Lots of SoNv shooters there.

Boulder might be your best bet. It looks like it's about 35 minutes from the cross-streets you listed. I didn't see any hours posted on their website, but if they have late hours you might still be able to get out there during the week for a bit. Desert Sportsman's let's you shoot until 10 p.m. (you have to bring your own lighting past dark). Maybe Boulder has the same option.

Your location isn't the best for daily shooting, but that's life in the city. I look forward to the weekend sessions and make a half day/day out of it. Especially in the summer, just go early to beat the heat and you still have most of your weekend left.

There might be some indoor ranges closer to you if you're having a real bad case of withdrawals during the week. I just don't know where they are on that side of town. It looks like American Shooters is about 20 minutes away and they are open till 9 p.m.

Boulder...anyone can go to and shoot ( might be a small fee now, used to be free).

Desert Sportsman Rifle and Pistol Club, you have to be a member to enter the property or to shoot.

Members can bring guests, but, you can't just show up and walk around.

I went to discount firearms to check out the place. They have an indoor range. I was going to go there tomorrow to try out my gun, but the employees there are stuck up elitists. I got ignored by all 5 employees there.

You'll definitely want to stay away from The Gun Store on Tropicana then. They are much worse than what you got at Discount.

Not 100% sure where its located but a friend of mine has a shop called Center Mass with some interesting stuff

www.centermassfirearms.com

Leon had a shop here in delaware for about a year before things had him move back to run the big store in vegas

He is great guy and very knowledgable along with helpful and polite

Center Mass is on the fringe of Henderson (east side). They have a 25 foot range (that's correct: feet, not yards) that was built for CCW qualifications as well as a scenario-based CQC training. The scenario training is a DVD/projection onto the backstop so you can do live fire exercises in situations. The cost of those scenarios is pricey, ($75 for 30 minutes) but I've heard they are pretty good. Leon is a good guy; I took my CCW class there and found it to be very informative. They also happen to be an HK armorer which might be of interest to some folks.

I went to American Shooters and fired my gun for the very first time. The guy said I had to have it inside a case or bag while going into the store? I thought you weren't allowed to place your gun in ANY type of container when carrying it?

Shot my Ruger .22 Single Six New Model both .22 and .22 Magnum. I was surprised how inaccurate the .22 magnum was. Shot it at about 20 feet.
