I am shopping for a .223 bolt rifle. I like Savage model 12's but they are 1-9 twist. I want 1-8 twist so that I can shoot 75 & 80 grain bullets.

I want a .223 because I already have a silencer (Gemtech) in that calibur.

I am looking for a match grade rifle that can do .75moa with hand loads.

Looking for suggestions that won't completely break the bank.

If you want to go with the Savage Douglas offers .224 withan 1 in 8 twist in their contour 7 chrome moly$178.25 or stainless $246.25, but you have to figure the threading and chambering. It's on page 47 in Brownells #58

I can vouch for the Savage rifles. I have a 10fp in .223 and 1:9" twist. My rifle will put 5 69 gr Nosler match bullets in less then 1/2".

I've shot 75 gr. bullets in my 10fp with good results. Haven't tried anything heavier but it would be hard to beat the accuracy of the Savage for the money.

savage LRPV comes in a 7 twist and works great for those bullets. Very Heavy Barrel piece, and costs ~ $900

I went down to my local Outdoor World (Basspro) and checked out a Tikka in a different calibur. I was impressed by the smoothness of the action. I am now torn between Savage & Tikka.

also read about people struggling to scope a cz527. I"ve been fighting with a mini-mauser with the same issue. it is no fun.

i believe tikka uses a long action for all it's rifles and puts a bolt stop on the shorter chamberings. not a huge issue, just something to note.
