Haven’t shot it yet.

I’m going to be gone till first of Sept (dad is in bad shape and other things...). But I’m hunting Sept 23-27, so I have to make it to the range between now and then to make sure that 270Win is still sighted. Embarrassed...

I don’t have any time to make up a load. My three loading friends around here have bailed (can you blame them...CA!!!). I wish I had the means to load some copper bullets quickly. I bought some 120 gr Nosler bullets, That is what I plan to use.

Should be a great rifle. I am very much looking forward to using it. I’ll just have to wait till next year to hunt with it.

Thanks for looking!

hope your dad get better, mine just got out of the va hospital with mercer. if i had some copper 7mm i would load you up some, but i don't use all copper yet.

He is at the beginning of dementia. He fell and couldn’t get up and was in the hospital for several days this week. I was with him till yesterday. I’ll be back in a week and half. But from there we need to make decisions.

Now we wait.

Thanks Troy.

I’ve used a couple of mausers rebarreled in 7x57 for many years, it’s my favorite deer caliber and have taken lots of deer with them. I’ve had great luck with 139gr Hornadys and 48.5 grs of RE19. Even tho I rebarreled these rifles, I never felt the need to hot rod this caliber, they both liked starting to mid loads. Most shots here are usually under 100 yards, bunch of them around 50 yards. Most taken with one well placed shot. I reload since new ammo can be a challenge to find here, brass last for many reloads. The 139 bullets work very well with good expansion and minimal fragmentation when hitting bone, never tried anything lighter, but I did try heavier up to 175gr. As for short barrel, I like them for carrying and going threw brush, I never noticed the blast till hunting out of plywood blind or covered practice range, then yea, it’s loud. If it shoots well, you will like the caliber, with reloading it’s not expensive to shoot, not any more then any other caliber.

I like the 139 gr as well. I chose the 120s though because I’m only copper here and I wanted the FPS so I would get expansion further out than I intend to shoot.

If I ever move to a free state I may change. Having said that, I know there are guys who use copper because they like it not because they have to. I think that is one of the Barnes sayings...

Can’t wait to put some lead then copper down range.

i like the 140 sierra pro hunter in my 7x57 and 7x57AI but there getting pricey for just a cup and core bullet, they shoot lights out tho. i may just go back with the cheap speer bullets. id like to try the copper, only thing i don't like with them is they tend to not penetrate the hide on the far side of a deer. i like through penetration.

That’s the first time I’ve heard that about penetration. I’m not doubting, just hadn’t heard it. I guess they just open too wide to penetrate through???

I read one guy say that the perfect bullet would penetrate exactly enough to punch through the hide on the other side then fall straight down because it had dumped all its energy into the target. Good lunch making such a magic bullet, but hey!

I’m going to be using Superformance 270 Win GMX 130 gr I n a few weeks. This will be my first time with this bullet: I expect it will work perfectly. I’m a ‘glass is 3/4 full’ kind of guy. Except when it comes to any government running almost anything.

ya for deer they kill just fine, i seen alot where the hunter will find the bullet just under the skin, you can see the bump under the hide where it's sitting. i think the added hole is better then full energy dump, i have seen where only one hole in a animal won't bleed. it's kinda like punching a hole in a water bottle and water only drips out, take the cap off and water rushes out.

i do wounder how the copper would work for me, i most times shoot for the shoulder. the copper bullets have less sectional density the normal bullets witch normally means less penetration.

i have used the superformance 130 in a 270 i got just before season one year. nasty load think it was 3200 fps, shot good to.

the nice thing with copper bullets are the animal does not have any lead in it, i remember using the old rem core lokts before they changed them, they killed fast but they were like a grenade going off. lead could be feet away from the impact point. the coppers do foul up some but some sweets 7.62 takes care of that.

the coppers really rely on speed to open, i think your wise to go with the 120gr. i like the long range barnes they are meant for longer range hunting meaning they open at slower speeds. since they stay together and only open so much they maybe a better choice.
