Years and Years ago I bought a Daewoo DR-200(223-5.56) for those that dont know its basically an Ar lower and an AK-like gas system. Not entirely unlike the modern AR gas piston setup. I had several friends at the time laugh at me for this purchase as it was not an AR or even an M-4gery. I tried to tell these friends of mine that the gas piston was a more reliable and adjustable system that really worked out to be better. Well just the other day I ran into 2 of the old friends and they were talking about their new gas piston setups and how great they are and how much better they worked. I had to bring up the past...........The conversation ended real quick with the reminder of what these guys use to act like:D

I sold the DR-200 a while ago as I ran out of use for the whole black rifle thing but it was a lot of fun to shoot.

yeah, i just bought a POF GP rifle, it works way better, and i won't have to deal with gas in my face if i get a suppressor for it. no decrease in accuracy as far as i can tell.
some people thought i was crazy to spend all that extra money for "nothing".

I'm pretty sure you will still have gas in the face with a piston AR and suppressor - you can look at THR for several post where gas piston owners ask for help with exactly that issue even.

As for whether the piston is superior to direct impingement, Izll just say that each system has different tradeoffs. My DI AR has done everything I have asked it to do, so no complaints for my uses.

If I was using a 10.5 inch barrel and suppressor, I might be more inclined to check out a piston AR.

come to think of it,
i guess there will still be some gas coming backwards, thanks.

one reason i like the piston cause i don't have to mess with the gas tube (with which i am not a very good friend).
