Keep in mind that the direct impingement AR is extremely reliable, and Ive been in combat in the desert with the same system and know from firsthand experience how well it works.

How do you like your gas piston AR personally?
I decided to get a different upper, and decided it was going to be something completely different, and easier to clean.
I ordered the bushmaster gas piston upper, although theres not more than a few hundred dollars difference between the LMT, and a few other brands, I decided to go with the bushmaster. Although I definitely liked the features of the monolithic rail system from the LMT.
From other gas piston AR owners, how do you like yours?

The only real reason to get the gas piston version, because I wanted one.

I like my POF a lot now that I've resolved the feeding issue (coating on bolt/carrier). In fact, I like it enough that my next AR will be a POF in .308. A discussion as to whether or not they're more reliable will end up with lots of opinions but zero facts or data. All I know for sure is that they run cleaner and the BCG runs cooler which equates to less/easier cleaning which is fine by me.

As for my POF (upper) shown in the photos below, the upper and Bushmaster lower were about $1500 so not significantly more than a good quality DGI model. The only thing I'm going to change now is the scope. Currently I'm using a Mark4 3.5-10x but that's a bit much for this application. I'm looking for a suitable 1-5x scope ... after that it's DONE!! The scope and LaRue base are sitting a little further forward now compared to what's shown in the photos.

I hope you post a review of the Bushmaster upper once you get it.

:)

I bought my first AR15 a few months ago and it is a CMMG M4LEP. Gas Piston and I like it quite a bit. I have had zero issues on bolt carrier operation and feeding. CMMG has a new rifle out that is gas piston and under $1000. You can check reviews out at AR15.com. The site also has a good bit of info on the CMMG gas piston kit.

I have a quick detach base with a Konus 1-4 x 24mm IR scope and BUIS on it. I have only fired about 500 rounds so far but it has performed extremely well.

Will have 2 in a week or so. They're paid for and "owned". Just haven't done the 4473s yet. Gotta wait until they arrive.
