I went to the NRA convention in St Louis a while back and got a chance to handle a few aftemarket stocks that I had been looking at on the net. At each booth I got the same story. We don't make stocks short enough for you. I won't mention names, but when pressed, one rep told me that they passed new designs around the office, and if it fit everyone it was produced. This manufacturer offers a fully adjustable stock with "wheel" adjusters. It is what I planned on purchasing, and is not cheap. Even it was 1/4-1/2" too long for me. I'm not that short at 5' 6", so I can't imagine I'm the only one having problems. Doesn't seem like a very scientific design policy to "pass it around the office". He did tell me I could go ahead and buy it, then chop it up and try to make it fit myself though. :banghead: I guess I'm just complaining out loud. There are other (expensive) options. But maybe someone will agree, and 'they" will see this.

I am 5'10'' and find most stocks to long for me as well. I have cut down a fair # of stocks thru the years. This is the main reason I avoid plastic stocks unless I happen upon one that by some miracle fits.
Lately I have begun purchasing youth model rifles and shotguns as they seem to fit me far better and if they dont I can install a recoil pad to extend them a bit.
I dont think height alone determines arm legnth we are all different and I too wish this was taken into account more than it is. I have gotten quite good at cutting stocks but it always pains me to do so.

It just baffles me that they would make an adjustable stock that with just a 1/2" more travel, could suit alot more people. Their stock would suit me fine at the bench, but I have a hard time with it prone. My pull seems to shrink when prone, and I have a hard time getting close enough to my scope. A thumb wheel adjustable stock would solve this wonderfully if it had enough travel. Modifying theirs is tempting, but if I cut up a $500 stock and ruin it I may be sleeping in the yard.

I almost always try and purchase youth sized stocks and rifles. They just fit me better, and that makes a world of difference in comfortable shooting. I've also cut several stocks down to my liking, I hate to do it but they just don't fit me right. Wood or synthetic, I can make it fit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has problems. Maybe I should call the company directly and see if the rep was full of it. Maybe they can do something to help it fit?

I have the opposite problem. Most stocks are two short for me. The LOP is just not right with many rifles.

Having grown up shooting military rifles, and older rifles stocked for iron sights, Ive always hated the "newer" stocked guns, which are more suited to shooting off a bench with a high powered scope than anything realistic.

Long LOP's are bad enough, then they have to add a recoil pads to them! How did we ever make it this far?!?!

Luckily, Brownells has generic buttplates (the factorys dont offer or even have them anymore ) for reasonable prices. Ive been getting pretty good at fitting them now. Thats usually a good 1/2"-1" worth of shorter right there.

I have considered removing the pad. But it is a Hogue stock on a 700 sps. It is very flexy, and touches the barrel when on the bipod. I'd like to replace it altogether.

So getting a sample size of several people is a problem? I'm sorry their stuff doesn't fit, but it seems like a sound method of coming up with a product to fit most people.

I guess that depends on if there are 10 people in the office, or 200. And if they are all ex linebackers or not. Evidently your rifle fits you fine. I just think that for 2/3 or more of the price of a decent rifle, they would offer something that fits.

I feel your pain so to speak. Being as I am only 5'4" i have found a lot of stocks are too long for me. Heck an m4 stock i can only have about half way out. If i could find a way to get the same LOP on all rifles like i have on my SKS i would be set.
