Anyone else having trouble getting pistol bullets? I have .40cal backordered since Feb at Powder Valley and .40 and .45 cal backordered for the past 30 days or so at BHSS.

9mm, .224, .308..... no issues, but 40 and 45 seems scarce.

Anyone know of another good source for bulk jacketed .40 and .45?

Thanks!

Looks like Powder Valley has all the .40 & .45 cal Rem & Winchester bulk bullets you could want in stock.

The ones that look out of stock is Zero bullet brand.
Is that what you ordered?

I also looked at Roze Distributors who are a big time Zero bullet dealer.
They are sold out of almost all Zero bullets too.

In any case, it seems there is a Zero bullet shortage, but not a general bullet shortage in all brands.

Powder Valley = .40cal 180 gr Hornady HAP. They have no idea when this will be in.

BHSS = .40 cal 180 gr Win TC & .45 cal 230gr Win RN. They say it 'could be about 30 to 45 days'. Best I can tell, they have no idea either.

Both are great folks to deal with, so I'm not really complaining about them. I Just Want My Bullets!

I've noticed an across the board 230grain FMJ/plated shortage.
Even some of the recent posts pointing to places with them in stock. those vendors are out of stock.

Give them a try.

They work just fine in .45 ACP & .40 S&W.

Truth be known, some of the "economy" & "Clean-Range" lines of name brand ammo are using plated bullets now. Some may even be getting them from Berry!

Plated will work. Getting a little pricey, though.

Berry's plated bullets work just fine, although they are not Match quality.
Most plated bullet manufacturers ask you to keep velocity down.
Plating can peel at higher velocities. No real danger to it, but accuracy suffers.
Rainier Ballistics even provides some load data for their plated bullets.
Check with each manufacturer for details.

Beware that Berry's now charges as much or more than fmj.
Don't come back here and complain that Berry's are overpriced.
I warned ya.

Many jacketed pistol bullets in bulk have become a 'buy in advance' commodity.
Buy today the bullets you want to load at the end of summer.
Buy during the summer all the bullets you want to load over the winter.

Be less picky about brand name.
Everyone from Rem and Win to Precision and Zero
to Magnatech and Hornady and Sierra make jacketed bullets.
Search for them all.

Also contact Speer, Rainier, Powerbond and Xtreme and Montana Gold for plated bullets.
Also contact Precision Delta and Montana Gold for jacketed bullets.
And develop a list of all the big time dealers, not just Powder Valley.

Shortage? Shortage you say? Just fire up the pot and pour a few.

I buy at the Dillon warehouse/storefront in Scottsdale, and I've never noticed a shortage. I usually buy Rainier plated though, for what that's worth.

You can try Montana Gold. They've got 40 & 45 in stock in variety of bullet profiles.

Precision Delta also has 40 & 45 in stock.

Zero is definitely cheaper, but I've not seen 9mm, 40 S&W or 45ACP since sometime last year.
Graf's and Midway also show quite a variety of Jacketed bullets in stock

They ARE out of a FEW Berry's and Hornady's - but no, definately not a shortage.

HINT: Get a SUPPLY of your bullets (for example - 1,000) and when you get even NEAR that number, it's time to re-order.

and remember, the posted number of "1,000" is ONLY a "for example" - your choice for "bullet stock on hand" (aka PAR level) may vary...

Here is my guess as to why it is hard to get bullets right now.

I ordered some 60k bullets from zero bullets about 2 months ago and I have yet to hear a word on them.

Since then material prices have gone WAY up. My guess is that manufacturers got nailed with higher materials prices and are not sending out older orders and hoping that their customers will forget that they ordered and re-order at the new prices. Its not like the demand is WAY up or anything.

Try Widener's for bulk rifle bulllets and pistol bullets. Midway also has some good deals on bullets, I sort of like their dogtown bulletts. They have a sales brochre on line thats good too.
I ordered 500 Starline Brass 45 colt brass from the Starline Boys and it had a two to three week leadtime. It should be shipping ths week, but... maybe not?? Be Safe

swaging costs a lot to set up but FMJ can be done. casting your own lead wire can keep the running costs down.

While not true FMJ, making your own plated bullets is very cheap.

Are Precision Delta pistol bullets any good? The pricing on their .45 cal looks good if the quality is there. (also out of stock).
Thanks

Learn how to cast and buy 2 five gallon buckets of wheel weights.

Times are changing. Here in Washington State all wheel weights are "LEAD FREE". That 5 gallon bucket you buy from the Tire Dealer will have way too much Zinc in it.

Shortage of Bullets ???
I've not noticed a shortage of bullets. :scrutiny:

The shortage I have noticed is......a shortage of s$$$$. :banghead:

The reason for the $$$ shortage is because I've been stocking up on bullets, brass, primers and powder.
