OK,,, I would like to shorten my syn 870 stock.... once th stock is cut (one inch shorter) what is the best way to "fit" the recoil pad...

You just have to grind it down where it fits snugly in the stock again, remember that the recoil pad is the 'structure' in the back end of the stock and without that structure it is weak and will break. Easy enough right? Well, not really. You have to pay attention to the screw holes in the stock, as you shorten up the stock and start fitting the pad it is easy to get the two out of sync. Take material off the pad evenly and check often for screw hole alignment.

I use a semi-smoothing rasp, a double cut bastard file works nicely too.

I think the Police stock is 1" shorter. The wood is 12" on mine.
There are plenty of stocks for sale on eBay.

only the 870P Max is shorter... I did get a Youth stock but would prefer to keep the org with the new pad if possible... Just checking here to see if anyone has already tried this idea...

The Kuhnhausen manual goes over shortening the stock and trimming the pad. You mask the stock and use an abrasive wheel.

You might want to check into a collapsible stock. Dillon sells an adapter for $34.95 which bolts onto the shotgun receiver. Then you buy their pistol grip for $25. Then you buy any one of a number of collapsible stocks such as is used on the M4 (?) military rifle. It's a very cool setup.
