I was looking at the Hogue website and they have a shorter LOP stock for a Mossberg 500/Maverick 88 (I hope) and I was wondering if there are any other options for a fixed stock with a shorter LOP than the original, as in not an adjustable/tactical one.

The furniture is the black synthetic and I am not worried about the pump handle or if it matches, just looking for something a little shorter.

Thanks,

MD

Well here's the thing, maybe I measured it wrong, but I got 14" for the current LOP and my support arm needs a little more room forward, I was thinking if I got a shorter stock it may fix this problem. I have a rifle that has an 11" LOP and it fits fine so I was thinking that maybe switching to a 12 would work out.

Is there a particular reason that you don't want the Hogue one, or are you just curious about your other options? You can cut down a standard LOP stock, and there are some tutorials around on how to do it. Mossberg also makes bantam stocks in both wood and synthetic.

For what it's worth, I had the same predicament. I went with the Hogue stock, and am very pleased with mine.

I was just wondering if there were other options, nothing against the Hogue but wanted to know if there was something else worth looking at. I am probably going to go with the Hogue.

I cut about 1.5" out of my 590 stock, and used a limbsaver slip-on recoil pad for a youth model, seems like I paid about $20 for it.

The biggest reason I cut mine down is because I had already stippled the grip. If not for that, I probably would have went with a hogue.

There's no reason not to try the Hogue, but a decent gunsmith can easily shorten an existing wood stock as needed and fit a good recoil pad. Personally I'd choose option #2, but it's your call of course. It might well be easier to just order the Hogue than to find a decent gunsmith...

Best wishes for a successful outcome,

lpl
