Shot a Glock for the first time today

I wish I could say I was impressed, but I wasn't.

It was tthe G36. I put 50 rounds through it. I shot S&B FMJ and 6 shots of Wolf ammo. I had 4 failures to feed, and at least 6 failures to eject. It was a range gun, BUT the way everyone carries on about them I expected no failures. It wasn't even that dirty of a range gun. I've fired a Ruger P95 before without missing a beat, and that was a filthy range gun.

I didn't care for the grip too much. It was narrow across the web of my hand a a little wide through the palm. It didn't kick as bad as I thought it would, but was definetiely something I wouldn't want to put hundreds of rounds through in a session. My brother in law tried it too, he didn't care for it, hurt his hand, BUT for the sakes of Glock he swears the 9mm G26 is fantastic. I the trigger didn't boither me, much at all. My first shot was right on the bulls eye, then it got sloppy, until I figured out what I was doing.

Overall, g36 not for me, maybe a g26 or 27. I'll rent them next.

I've only had a chance to fondle one. It seemed a little weird when compared to the feel of the G17,G19/23 and so on.

But,that's just me. There are alot of people who swear by them,though.

Models 17 and 32 over here; the Glock 32 is my 'defensive application device' of choice. The 17 is an all-around wonderful firearm, from plinking to self-defense. I need to install some Meps on it soon, though.

A 26 and a 20 are in my future next year, perhaps a 29 and 31 as well. I had a 36 for awhile and sold it. It's a nice enough firearm but held too few rounds for me to feel comfortable with it. With practice it's capable of quick and accurate fire.

I like to have at least ten rounds available, but 17+1 is nice, too.

I have shot Glocks. A few things I dont care about is the grip angle, and that funny "spong" noise when you pull the trigger. For me the G-19 Points and shoots very well. Some are better then others. For a dark side pistol I prefer the Springfield XD series. Better grip angle.

For combat tupperware I prefer the Walther P99 flavor. The Glock is a good gun, I have shot plenty but its not for me.

I have a G23 I bought in '94. Only glock I have any experience with but I honestly do not recall even one failure to feed or fire during several hundred rounds.
Its not my favorite HG and not one I shoot for pleasure but it is the one next to my bed when I am home and the one most likely to be nearby at other times.

I had a FTF about 10,000 rounds ago in my G30... had a Blazer that had a bad crimp.

I've never had a FTF with my G26. You're right about the grip angle... seems every other piece I try shoots a tad low until I get used to it.

Oh, ahd they only "sprong" when empty. They "boom" when loaded... every time, but don't take me wrong... I'm a SIG bigot

Glocks are famous for their reliability.
The had to be doing something right to overcome the old anti-plastic prejudices and become so popular and the choice of so many LE depts.

Wild Billz......I think you may have chosen the most ...UN GLOCK
of all the Glocks if that makes sense to you.Glocks are not thin guns.... you should try the 21 or 30 if you are into .45's they are GLOCKIER?

I shot a Glock again for the first time in several years a couple days ago. I owned a G17 and loved it, but I sold it because I did not think it was accurate enough at the time.

I shot a G21 this time, and absolutely cut a hole on the X ring at 15 yards. The Glock is so easy to shoot it is not even funny. The grip angle was a tad awkward at first being a 1911 guy, but a couple looks at the sights as I brought it up and I was off and shooting it like it was my long lost friend. I shot the G21 as well as I shoot my custom 1911 that was double the cost and only equal in mag capacity.

Glocks are not for everyone, but I sure like them. Find what fits you and buy a pair of them, then add a spare .

You couldn't have picked a worse Glock to try for your first Glock. If you'd tried a G30 or just about any other Glock, you'd probably be posting differently.

I'm with sonny on this one....you didn't shoot a Glock, you shot a G36

I know some love theirs, but it is not like the other Glocks. Try another.

If there are two groups of gun owners who are downright rabid and fanatical in their loyalty to their chosen brand of firearm, it would be Glock owners and SIG owners. There MUST be a reason for this.

I personally don't like the triggers on Glocks; I'm certain I would shoot my eye out . Also, I can't afford to buy every gun on the market and put 10,000 rounds through it, but I HAVE to have SOME criteria by which to choose a firearm: consequently word of mouth and reputation means a lot to people like me. Maybe I'm an idiot. I dunno. However, it would be hard to find two manufacturers with better reputations for dependability than SIG and Glock...and Glock seems to sell a LOT of guns.

Later this year I'm gonna go the SIG route due to the triggers. However, I'm fairly certain I would be content with the reliability of either.

And on the wings of such whimsy do companies gain new customers and make tons of money...

i'll probably try the g26, or g19. i'm in the market for a new ccw and i was leaning towards the g26. they didn't have one to rent so i tried the big bore version. if i had know the g36 was unglock like i wouldn't have rented it, i've heard so much good about it i decided to give it a try. fortunately, i'm not willing to write off the glock until i have one more try at another variant, so many people can't be too wrong. who knows maybe its 45acp in so light a gun?

I would suggest that you shoot the 19 before you shoot the 26...

I've found that initially getting used to Glocks the 19 was a bit easier for me to shoot. But guess what Santa brought me?? A 26!

I have had a lot of Glocks and still own three. Great guns and all of them have been reliable. The G-36 is too thin to shoot comfortably in my opinion. I have not heard many stories about bad Glocks, but i guess every brand has lemons.

Well, I'm no big Glock lover by any means but have never had a failure of any kind with quality ammo shooting them. I've owned a 21 and a 23 and I've shot most of the 9mm, 40 and 45s and nary a failure yet. And if I were to buy another, it would be the 36.

I have the 17, 19 and 26 models.
Other than a couple of FTF last round problems with 1 mag, (that turned out to be a bad follower) and one light strike (hard primer on a wolf round) I have had zero malfunctions after several years and 1000's of rounds through each of them.

The 36 is one of the Glocks in my collection (ten in all) and although I've only put a few hundred rounds through it, it hasn't let me down. No jams, no FTE, FTF, etc. I guess anything can happen to a rental gun, no matter what the make.

My 21 has "jammed" only 2 or 3 times since I've had it (nearly 4 yrs now) and it was occurring with one magazine. I have taken that one out of rotation, and no problems since then.

I am thinking that maybe (I am no engineer) that the lower mass of the 36's slide as compared to the 30 makes it much more sensitive to limp wristing? Not saying you are, but that could explain it.

Or maybe the mags were really trashed, being a rental and all.
