Today I tried something new, I shot my BCM 20" chrome-lined government profile AR in a match today. It has the standard issue plastic handguards (not floated). Normally for when I shoot an AR in a match I use a RRA Standard A2 which has a HBAR. I thought I would try the BCM today as my scores always drop considerably towards the end of my off-hand strings with heavier barrels / guns, and I wanted to see what effect a light barrel might have on my scores. BTW I don't use a shooting coat, and don't intend to get one.

My BCM upper is not particularly accurate, being only about a 1.75 MOA shooter compared to my RRA HBAR upper (also not floated) with is about a .75 MOA shooter (both with match ammo). Plus the non-floated lighter barrel bends more when slung up so it is less forgiving. But I was hoping I might gain enough off hand to overcome some of the enevitable lower scores I would get in the slung positions with the BCM rig.

It was about 36F and raining, and since I have not been able to buy any match ammo for some time I shot the only thing available locally, inexpensive Independence XM193 55 grain FMJ (Israeli made and imported by Federal).

Anyhow my slow fire prone took a big dive, and my rapid prone and sitting were mediocre, but my off hand went well. Off hand I shot a 90/100 which is a personal best for me, and a significant improvement over my average offhand score. Total score was 451 2X out of 500, which IIRCC is "Expert".

Not a score to shout about, but not too bad either under the circumstances.

I now think I would like to set up an upper with a LW Criterion match barrel with the lightest quad rail I can find to float it. If that weighs the same or less than my non-floated HBAR it might be the ticket.
