Shot in the teeth in Iraq

It is also possble the Sgt. was shot with a defective round. Perhaps there was no follow-up shots because the defective round did not properly work action for follow-up shots.

no, he should be 'boris the blade', or 'boris the bullet dodger'.

avi: "why do they call him that?"

tony: "because he dodges bullets, avi."

How about calling him Sgt. Jaws? Kind of a 007 flavor. Or somthing really really scary, how about "Sgt. Bullet Eater the Infidel from the West, here to destroy the followers of Allah and cast the chosen people into the pit of torment"

Would kind of take up a lot of name tag space though.

By the way, I carry a 9mm for self defense and would carry one on duty with no problem. 147grain Hydrashock ain't no joke. Especially if being hit by 3 of them before you can say "wait".

I think my spring round will be +P Gold Dot 125 grain

My summer round 90grain +P+ Corbon with what? 424 lbs of energy? Thats in .40 S&W territory ya'll.

"Our boy is very very very lucky and may very well have had one of his Guardian Angel's working overtime that day. He probablly could have taken a 12 gauge at close range and made it while that angel was on shift."

Somehow I doubt that even a Guardian Angel can help you in the case of a 12ga. Guardian Angels seem to do their best work with smaller calibers and when the bullet enters a non-leathal spot. :neener:

Perhaps there was no follow-up shots because the defective round did not properly work action for follow-up shots.

That's a very good point. It could have been a squib and that would explain a lot.

I someone shoots me in the face with anyhting and I have a assault gun, aint gonna be no surrendering

that's what I was thinking. If someone shot me in the face and I were still standing I'd think I'd be pulling the trigger on whatever I was holding until the magazine was empty.

Apples to apples you say? You managed to pick the tastiest 9mm apple and a rather mushy .357 Magnum one to "compare."

Try a Speer Gold Dot 125 and your Remington's muzzle velocity is the Gold Dot's at 50 yards from a 4" vented. Better yet, go see a 158 grain .357, something the 9mm can't duplicate.

Speer Gold Dot Detail Page

And we aren't even to the Buffalo Bore or the 180 grain monsters the .357 can launch con mucho authoridad muchacho.

If anyone wants to downplay the 9x19mm (which we are assuming that it was) because of this story, then we should, perhaps, discuss the repeatability of this shooting. Any volunteers...? I'll even pay for the dental work.

iraq oh my god!!!!

i am a high school student that plans to go into the military with firm plans of combat........i dont shoot half bad :D

I would be slow to believe this one if not for the pics. They add a good bit of credidibilty and don't seem to be Photoshopped.

Blah Blah 9mm sucks Blah Blah :p

I would've shot back.

I second that he be nicked "Bullet-Tooth Tony".

CERBERUS
have posted many times that I feel a 9mm is nothing but a range plinker. And never should be used for defence. This is a good example as to how worthless they are. But I am glad the guy shooting at our guy was using it. [end quote]

I think you are a very very thick headed person.

In the authors’ ongoing study of violence against law enforcement officers, they have examined several cases where officers used large-caliber hand guns with limited effect displayed by the offenders. In one case, the subject attacked the officer with a knife. The officer shot the individual four times in the chest; then, his weapon malfunctioned. The offender continued to walk toward the officer. After the officer cleared his weapon, he fired again and struck the subject in the chest. Only then did the offender drop the knife. This individual was hit five times with 230-grain, .45-caliber hollow-point ammunition and never fell to the ground. The offender later stated, “The wounds felt like bee stings.†[end quote]

IMHE, from running around that area, Iraqi made 9mm ammo is notoriously underpowered, and not very consistent. A lot would misfire. Some would not cycle the slide. One of my associates accidentally capped himself in the knee and it gutter wounded. He was hopping around laughing about it and majorly freaking out the medic. Had he been using NATO ammo his kneecap probably would have been a complete mess.

Why is he missing a tooth in the top picture and has a full set of teeth in the second picutre

if you look in the second picture he is wearing a different uniform, I am guessing that is post corrective surgery.

Since it hit the tooth before fully penetrating, it probably didn't get a chance to make a noticeable hole. At least that's how my dumb brain looks at it.

Didn't David Berkowitz (the 'Son of Sam' killer), use a .44 bulldog and have several survivors of point blank head shots?

ok, I'll bite.

9mm +P+ in a 4" bbl moves a 127gr 1250fps, and 441lb/ft.

vs:

.357 Mag +P+ in a 4" bbl moves a 125gr 1450fps, and 583lb/ft.

This .357 load is clearly more potent, though not earth shatteringly so.

If the hottest 9mm loads are in range with the middle of .357mag loads, then one could at least make the argument that if not emperically the same, they at least aren't all that different?

After all, aren't all .357mags the bee's knees ultimate man-stoppers? ;)

So he had a huge smile :D on his face when he saw the Iraqi pointing a gun at him? I still think that his lip should have been messed up more.

I didn't know you could put English on a 9mm slug.

Well, snopes turned up bumpkiss.

I personally think it is bunk, no evidence, just my gut feeling here. Like said above, anyone wants to try to test the theory, I will pay the dental bills and ONLY the dental bills for the volunteer. But please, make me your sole beneficiary before we start.

ID_Shooting,

We know what Snopes turned up because I linked to snopes in my first post.

Anyway I think we've had some good explanations here such as the possibility of a squib round and whatnot. Maybe it is bunk but I think eventually it will be determined whether it was or not.

Just a note for the unitiated: There are no .357 Mag. "+p+" loadings that I am aware of. The whole caliber is already .38 Special +p+++++.

Here's an interesting thought: What does this say about the level of training of these guys? Fortunately for Sgt. C. (or "Fang," as he's likely known by his squadmates) the terrorist fired one round into his target. Everything I've heard or read about combat pistolcraft says "keep shooting until the threat is eliminated." Not saying I'm any sort of expert on the subject, but it does make one wonder if they teach these guys things like that.

Precisely. This is exactly why multiple rounds are to be used on a single target when it comes to pistol shooting.

Diggler, my guess for the lack of hole in the upper lip is not that he was smiling, but that he had his mouth open, yelling or snarling, maybe.

Other possibility? Could the displaced air in front of the bullet (esp. considering it was very short range, and there is a small column of air in the barrel that will be coming out) have moved his lip? Maybe the terrorist was shooting at an upward angle?

Please note. All this is a guess.
