Hello everyone,
This is one of my first posts in the Shotgun section, and I have lots of stuff that I'm going to cram into this post.

I'm somewhat new to shotguns, skeet shooting, etc.
I inherited a collection of guns, and a few happen to be shotguns. For starters, I consider myself a collector, and target/skeet shooter, with shotguns. I don't do much hunting, if I do its just Squirrels or some small critter.

I have 2 Browning Model 12 Shotguns, both are exactly the same barrel length (25''), are modified chokes, and have a ramped sight, are pump's, and are in Excellet/Like NIB condition with one small exception* I will get to later. They are literally like twins. The only thing different about these two guns are the gauge. One is a 20ga, and one is a 28ga.

My issue is this:
These shotguns are Made in Japan, and are in excellent conditon, which leads me to believe they are pretty new. As a collector, these are two things I kind of look down on, personally. However, they are the only 20ga, and 28ga I have, so it adds variety, and they are in really good shape*, and are inherited from a family member.

I am really into the older shotguns, like the Winchester model 12's and older doubles, etc.

My thoughts are this:
Sell these two guns, and use the $ to buy 2 other more collectable shotguns in these gauges (20 and 28). However, I can't really find a collectable 28 gauge, and even the gauge itself isn't all that popular.

Here are some pictures of the guns, like I said they are like twins! And its not the same gun.

*And here is the exception of the like new condition. The 20ga has an enormous chip in the buttstock/buttplate.

So here are my options, and this is where I need some opinions:

Do I try and sell these guns, and look for more collectable guns? Or do I keep them because they're good guns and for whatever reason?

--IF--
I sell them, what other collectable 20ga and 28ga are out there? I briefly looked on Gunbroker, but didn't see much.
By the way, the guns book price was $625 on each of them, however with the 20ga, I won't get nearly that much for because of the chipped stock. So lets say my budget is $1000.

To sum up my post: Do I sell two Browning model 12s Made in Japan in 20ga and 28ga and look for two other collectable shotguns in 20 and 28ga, or do I just keep them?

I say keep 'em.
They are beautiful, and functional. The mod 12 ia a classic....I don't care where it was made.
Either of those guns would be perfect for birds over dogs.

(Respect for whoever left them to you??)

Not sure why you would want to collect these two.

If you are not going to use them I would sell them.

If you want to collect for the sake of collecting, I would go for pre-64 Winchester Model 12's, or any of the other fine American made guns that are available.

Those are Browning reproduction Grade 1 Model 12s, and they are very well thought of, and are very well made. They have interrupters the originals didn't have, and are very nice guns, if you like Model 12s. I would definitely prefer those to 'originals'. I seriously doubt you could sell those and get "real" Model 12s in anywhere near as good a shape, either. Do you have the piece that came off the 20's stock? If so, someone who knows what they are doing could fix it and you would never know it had been chipped.
But, they are designed for shooting rather than pure collecting, and should be great fun on game or clay targets.
