I alreadly have an AK clone* but I don't have a shotgun & have been thinking about getting one.

The thing is, I can't decide whether or not I should buy the pump shotgun now & save for the AK, or get the AK now & save for the shotgun.

I figure the AK's will be banned before the 870's are. What are your thoughts on what I should do?

*SAR1. Good gun. No problems with it. If I do get another AK, it'll have to be under $500 so it'll probably be a WASR-10.

i have an sks (its no ak, but similar feel im sure) and an 870 18" with extended tube, i think no matter which you choose youll enjoy it, but id say if you already have a rifle, get the pump. they are a lot of fun to shoot, and you can get cheap skeet loads, something like 15 bucks for 100 rounds. plus its a ton of fun to feel the pump action.

my opinion.

I voted shotgun, because you already have an AK and there is enough time to get both before anything is banned.

It's like golf clubs. You wouldn't buy a 2nd driver when you still need a putter.

Why have you been thinking about getting a shotgun?

Why have you been thinking about getting another AK?

Answer those questions and you'll likely not need our advice.

+1

Neither AK mentioned seems to be overly collectable or rare, so I don't understand the logic in getting another AK when you already have one that you are satisfied with. My vote goes with a shotgun.

Why don't you bide your time, save a little longer and get a Saiga-12? Then you'll have the best of both worlds and satisfy your desire for both a shotgun and an AK-style weapon. A proper one from someone like Tromix is going to run you $750-800, but it will be an extremely high quality weapon that if you ask me, is money better spent than a crude WASR-10.

Under $500 will also get you a Yugo or Lancaster AK.

But yeah, I say shotgun. If you want something relatively unique, get a Saiga 12. Otherwise, a 590A1 would be cool, depending on your needs.

Those Tromix's look cool but I checked gunbroker.com & the 10 round magazines for them are going for $59 plus S&H.

If I get a shotgun, it'll probably be like the 870 or 590 Mossberg.

I want the AK because I like to believe that for every EBR you buy, Charlie Schumer cries:D .

I want the shotgun because I see bulk packages of shells at Dicks for like $15 for 100 shells.

well since you asked in the rifle forum I think that shows where your heart truly lies...

Don't ditch the one you love for the one you like if you don't have to.

I asked here because I wasn't sure where else to put it actually:eek: . If the mods wish to move it, I don't mind.

Another consideration is where you are going to practice with it. My local range does not allow shotguns on the rifle and handgun ranges. The shotgun ranges are just for shotgun sports. If this is just for fun, I'd go with the AK.

As for the cost of ammo, I just got a case of 7.62x39 for $170 shipped, close to the bulk price of those shells. A shotgun is probably one of the most versatile weapons, especially compared to an AK.

I have my own range so that's not a problem. Just one of the perks of NC:) .

Forget the Saiga 12. Like I said, it's a 007 looking gun but if I had $1000 to play with, I'd buy an Arsenal AK & see why folks think they are the best. Also I'm curious to feel the difference between a milled AK & a stamped one.

i know that soon enough i'll find myself in a similar dilemma- wait and buy that expensive ar later for example, or get the 'cheaper' 1911 i always wanted now....
i've made the decision to put any and all money i have for firearm purchases in semi auto rifles- even if it's just a stripped lower,
because semi auto rifles will likely be the first thing to be banned...so that is what i would advise you to go with...like you said ..that 870 pump will be around and available for a long time (*fingers crossed*)
