I was looking at a lightly used Mossberg 500 at my favorite pawn shop this morning. The action felt like it cycled well and the gun didn't seem to be abused, but there was a little play in the forearm. With the action closed the forearm felt like it could wiggle around the magazine very slightly. I don't know much about shotguns. Is that kind of looseness a sign that it's been abused or is it normal?
Thanks,
Chris

MOST fore-arms have at least a bit of play in them.

As long as it is not "rattling around enough to spook all game within 100 Yds", it is probably OK.

Mossbergs are good solid serviceable shotgun, although not always as 'tight' as say a classic Rem 870 Wingmaster

That's just what I wanted to hear. I go back and pick it up first thing tomorrow so I can try it out on some clays before the afternoon heats up.
