I recently bought a Westernfield 550AB (aka Mossberg 500AB) and the forearm slide tube seems kind of loose. The gun functions fine. It seems like it's missing a shim that should go between the action slide tube nut and the magazine tube. Can anyone tell me if i'm missing a part or if it's supposed to be like that?

As long as the barrel on the moss is secured everything is fine.

My wife's moss had a slightly loose forearm but everything that counts is tight.

Now on to the loose marbles I keep losing...

Take a good hard look at your shotgun.
I am thinking you will find the action slide has only one slide bar instead of the later twin slide bars.
This single slide bar model tends to make the forearm feel a little sloppy on the magazine tube and the guns have a tendency to bind a little bit.

If the slide bar is tight and the forearm is sloppy on the action tube, chances are the wood has shrunk a bit.
You might try loosening the forearm lock cap and then retightening it, this may tighten the wood up on the action bar.HTH

Hungry seagull, you're right. Everything else is tight and it works flawlessly.

Onmilo, It has twin slide bars. The slide tube itself seems loose, not just the grip.

I won't worry about it too much, it hasn't caused any problems.

Thank you guys!
