Hello all,
I have a mossberg 930 field/deer combo, and have yet to shoot sabot slugs out of its fully rifled bbl yet. It came with a cantilever mount, which is unfortunate b/c i like iron sights better than scopes, but it will have to do for now. What are good manufacturers/models of shotgun scopes for sabot slugs?
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks,
DS

Far as I am concerned, there is only 1 scope. And thats a Leupold. I don't know for sure, but I bet they make a shotgun only scope. If not, Simmons, Nikon, Bushnell, Tasco all make SG scopes. Try looking in Cabelas, Cheaper Than Dirt, Sportsman's Guide, Gamaliels or Bass Pro Shops.

I like red dot scopes on my slug guns and if you like iron sights you will definitely like red dots. I like the Burris ones or the older Leupold Gilmore sights.

Once hunting season comes you will probably be glad you have a scope. I have got many deer that would not have been possible without a scope.

for a shotgun.. I would definitely go with a red dot... everyone I know just has better success with them on shotguns vs conventional scopes...

I can vouch for the Nikon 2-7x32 shotgun scope, I have one on a CZ American in .22lr and love it.
Nothing fancy, it just works well in all conditions, even in very low light levels, the reticle is also very clear, even against dark backgrounds.
It is also far better in most conditions then the much more expensive Leupold 2-7x28 that I also owned, for a short while.

Neil. :)

What is the best Red Dot for the least amount of money? I've been looking at the RDP-II The Burris Fast Fire, its more expensive, and the ratings on Cabelas just dont sell me. What other Red Dots are worth the money on a shotgun? I really would prefer to stay under 150. I'm also leaning towards opensite, since i wouldnt mind using it for both bird and deer

millet makes some good inexpensive red-dots,truglo's work well, bsa has a few options... it all depends on your budget, but they all work pretty well.... I vote millet above the others.

I use a reflex sight.

I was told that people had 30 dollar red dots put on thier shotguns all the time. Either it is enormously popular or they are crap and needed replacing.

I dont know. All I know is that my loads are very heavy with much force transmitting through the gun. Ive had stuff shake off during a shot because I forgot to get the allen wrench out to tighten things down prior to range visits.

I probably will replace that reflex with something else in the future, but not a 30 dollar red dot tube.

There are not many shotguns of the 870's that I have seen yet in my area. If I find anyone shooting one with a scope on thiers; I will ask that person for his input.

I have no experience with them, but the price isn't bad if they are dependable.

The only experience I've had with red dot sights are from other peoples weapons, mostly plinking. I'm not comfortable with trusting the shot of a lifetime on a trophy...whatever... to something that requires a battery. I place my trust in proven optics and for the most part that means Leupold on all my Deer rifles. I did however place my trust in a Tasco fixed 2X shotgun scope a few years ago to take a Deer in Illinois on an invited hunt. I think the most important thing is to stick to a quality optic designed for a shotgun and don't overscope on the magnification.
