You will have to excuse my ignorance on this. Are there any shotgun scope mounts that allow easy removal and don’t need to be re-sighted each time. The scope will be used for my slug barrel, but I want to easily switch over to my other barrel, removing the scope, and not have to re-sight when I switch back to the slug barrel. Also I want the freedom to use the slug barrel without the scope (iron sights) if I want. I thought about the cantilevered barrel but it does not have iron sights which means I must use a scope all the time with the slug barrel. By the way my shotgun is a Mossberg 500

Thanks

If you had an 870, I woulda suggested this:

But, since you don't, I have no idea...

Are there any quick release scope mounts that allow you to remove the scope when you want to use iron sights and then put the scope back on without having to re-sight the scope?

Yes, Quick Release mounts are made by Leupold and others. They are designed to work with rails or Weaver style bases.

I have been searching all over the internet. I checked out Leupold's webiste and cant really find anything for a shotgun.

The mounts aren't specifically made for a shotgun, they're made for 30mm size or 1 inch size or whatever scopes.

If you can find someone to put a M1913/Picatinny rail on the reciever of your shotgun above the ejection port, you could mount QD rings and a dot scope etc, and removing the barrel and replacing it would have no effect. Removing the scope and reattaching it would have no effect on zero as long as you remembered to put the scope back on the same marked spot on the rail (they usually have numbers for this purpose).

A gunsmith will put a rail on a shotgun and there are aftermarket ones out there. Check out www.brownells.com

what kind of sights are you using on your slug barrel?

If you're using the Ghost ring sights, you can't mount a rail on the reciever, as the sights take up all the available realestate.

if you're using sights that leave the reciever clean, you can put a rail on the reciever, but that'll likely mess up your bead sight picture, assuming the other barrel is a bead sighted barrel.

My slug barrel has regular iron sights mounted on the barrel, and my field barrel has beaded sights.

The Mossberg bead should be high enough as it is, if I remember right it's on a little pedestal. If you've got rifle sighted slug barrel and bead bird barrel, this setup would work (the picatinny rail etc).

It won't interfere with your rifle sights, but if you have the older low bead instead of the newer bead on a pedestal, possibly. (Easily fixable).

The bead should be sitting on a little post, not directly on the barrel then. If that is the case the Sidearmor rail should not interfere.

Thank you guys for all the help. I think I am going to get that rail. I might try to find one a little cheaper.
