Hey all,

I ran across something that I found very interesting the other day. Shotgun shell adapters. I thought it was a joke at first, but after I thought about it, it made sense and looked pretty sweet! I just wanna know what type of action these adapters can be used in... I heard that they only work in a break action (SxS or O/U). Is this true, or can I use in a pump or semi-auto if I only load one shell into the adapter and that directly into the chamber (in other words, without putting any adapters in the tube)??

thanks all !:D

I have some of those, the novelty wore off fast. They were made, IIRC, for break-open guns, and then you had to poke the empties out one at a time.

They aren't that expensive, you could always try loading a shell into the adapter and loading it into the open ejection port

adapters go way back. i have a remington rider that came with a period leige 38-55 insert tube. the barrel is ribbed and rifle sighted. inserts were available around the turn of the century to your specification, within reason. last week i finished up the second rifle barrel for this gun in 45-70, made from an old sringfield beater. shoots to POA and 2" groups at 50 yards. working on something similar with a couple of doubles, a 12 ga with 45-70 and a 16 gauge for 303 with limited handloads. all have functional extractors that are activated by the shotgun extractor, and muzzle nuts to keep them in place.

I got some 410 inserts for a 20 ga so my step son could get used to the recoil and build confidence. It was such a pain, I just went to wally world and bought a mossburg 500 in 410 and loaded one shell at a time until he was more practiced. I would say more of a novelty, but def only in a single shot/break action.

All adapters are NOT created equil!! Good ones work and work well! You have to check the differtent brands to see what ones do what you want, don't shop on price alone!

I made my own adapters for my S&S 16ga., so i can shoot 20's in it,

They slide right in and you'd never know you are shooting a 16ga., as the 20ga hulls extract just like the 16's do! They work perfectly, and allow me to fire any of the 20ga. loads available.

To get them out, i have a shop made tool, made from some bearing bronze bar stock i had around,

Anyway, it was a easy project that was fun and well worth the time it took to make them.

These are a little different, adapters are anodized aluminum, with about 1" of rifling. I use only cast lead through them and in my old 12ga Springfield single barrel with rifle sights, they'll group 2-3" at around 30yds. Stiff loads with Unique are easy shooting.

I have several different adapters similar to NC's too, except mine are made of steel... I also have several other sub chambers of different kinds too, but the only ones that really are top quality, are the Krieghoff insert bbls. Now, they really are a quality insert that shoot similar to a bolt action rifle.
