Shots Fired

This afternoon (about ten hours ago) I heard two rifle shots coming from behind the house across the road. At first, I assumed someone was just plinking. That notion was erased a few seconds later, when I heard a man screaming in rage. I couldn't make out his words, with the exception of the phrase "gun in my face."

I called 911, and learned that someone had beaten me to it, and deputies were already on the way. I was told that an armed subject was on that property and I was to stay inside.

Meanwhile, the screaming continued across the road. I still hadn't seen anyone over there. Since the enraged man I heard might have been the one with the rifle, I leaned my 700 against the wall next to my front doorway and watched and listened. I had no intention of allowing an infuriated man with a rifle to approach my house unobserved.

The first deputy got there in about four minutes, followed by two more. They eventually put a cuffed man in the back of one of their cars and took him away. Apparently no one was hurt, for no ambulance came.

I moved out here in the country, in part, to get away from this sort of nonsense. It's sad to see someone screw up his life like that.

No real point to this story; I just wanted to get it off my chest, and THR seemed a fitting place to do it.

Were they polite when they let you know? I have had bad experiences with 911 every time I have used it, always rude operators who make it seem I am wasting their time or something. I'd apologize for being off the point, but since there was no point to begin with...

Hey I know its a sad and terrible subject; a comment about moving to the country to get away, Ill add this 4-5 yrs past a man called the 911 & or sheriff in Bolvar co Ms and siad Iam going to shoot my wife, there is nothing you can do about it. He killed his wife and then himself. Very troubling,disturbing etc. I think of that every time we go down there, one of our fav shooting places is very near. They were an elderly man and wife which make it no better. tragidy abounds, so does all the wonderful good stuff. thanks.

Sad story. At least nobody was injured.

No gunfire here in "safe" West Palo Alto - if it happens, they apparently have a sound system to triangulate where it happened!

Head just over the bridge to East Palo Alto and you have a different story - despite the best intentions of the grabbers.

Glad to hear everything turned out ok in the end. The sad reality is that stupidity is contagious & spreading everywhere!

Sven: When I was out in CA (left in 1991), the only time I went to East Palo Alto was on April 15th to drop of my tax return at the post office. And then it was one of those "lock the doors and don't stop for traffic lights" kind of things.

But I'd heard recently that EPA was getting gentrified. Is that not the case? Is it still a gang war zone?

I too moved out of California in 1991. I spent several wonderfull years working in Compton. Glockten, you also have me curious as to what happen.
