Should I buy a 10/22?

Now I need to modify it so the bolt will close if it pull it vs pushing that stupid button.

That is a very simple fix, if you're handy, or you can buy the drop in replacement "button" and it's just a matter of swapping it out by removing a couple pins.

As others have said, rimfirecentral.com has all the 10/22 info you could dream of.

i had a few 10/22 they was all overall good guns but if i was you i would get the marlin alot cheaper and you will get better accuracy from the get go.. and if you really want a good gun and dont need a auto get a 39a golden there by far the best 22's on the market.

Not the choice I would make if I were given the chance to do it again but I hope it works out for you. Lots of better options out there for the money but what's done is done.

well if you want to just go out to the range and waste ammo the 10/22 will be a great gun for that but if you want to go to the range and shoot dimes at 25 30 yards dont get the 10/22 .....

I just want to put rounds down range; shooting dimes is what my K31 is for.

Yes, you do need to get one when the money is right. I have a couple and really like mine. The 10/22 was the first gun that I bought for myself.

I like 10/22's, but generally the factory triggers are very bad. Most of the inacurracy people are talking about is because of the trigger. If you upgrade to a better trigger (ie, Volquarten for example) your 10/22 will suddenly become much more accurate. Unfortuantely a good trigger costs almost as much as the rifle.

I have both a Ruger 10/22 and a Marlin Model 60. Truth be told, I enjoy the Marlin the most. I've had issues with the Ruger including FTF, FTE since new. For the most part this was fixed with a new extractor and using CCI Mini Mag ammo. I also had to wack the rear sight over for it to shoot to POA. I think when a gun is purchased it should shoot as bought and not needing tweaking. I can shoot any Wally World special box o ammo out of the marlin without complaint. It is my go to gun for plinking. Plus there is no magazine to lose. Come to think of it, i don't think I've ever had any failure with the Marlin.

Also the price is not stellar. I'd keep looking around unless you want it to mod out. You could always get the "Archangel" kit for it for a more menacing look.

I like that. How do you like the pump action as compared to a lever action for a 22? I've never had a pump anything except shotgun.

I disagree with the inaccuracy of the 10/22, I've got one myself and i can easily hit 1/2 inch targets with a totally stock 10/22 and eley sport ammo

10/22 is a good base rifle, that you will either lover or hate. if you have an ar15 there are several 22lr conversion kits as well so you can tell the wife you didnt buy another gun ( worked for me at least) also savage 22lr with accumark trigger is a good shooter with opensights ( is a bolt action) just a few different ideas.

I had a choice between a 10/22 and a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 and I'm so glad I went with the M&P 15-22. A friend of mine has a pimped out 10/22 and it has nowhere near the fun factor that the M&P 15-22 has. The M&P 15-22 is extremely accurate too, much more accurate than the 10/22 in my experience. The M&P costs more but it's worth every penny.

i've also have Henry H001 lever and far as my opinion goes they are both pretty equal, but i think the pump is just a tad more fun. and also it will fire shorts with no problems, all 22 of em! it gets used alot for pest control. i live in a area where quite is a big factor so cci cb shorts they do a remarkable job, racking of the pump makes more noise than the actual firing of the bullet.

I'd stay away from a 10/22 unless you're going to be modding it.

Agreed. My brother has a .22, and for the life of me I can not get used to the sights. If you are willing to drop $100-200 on it in parts, scope, etc, then it might be the right thing for you. However, for about $330 you can get a cz 452, which in my opinion is a far better gun. I know, I know, its not an autoloader, but those have the slickest bolts and nicest lines of any .22 I've ever seen! Last week at the Newington Gun Exchange I saw a few, including a full stock, which I was drooling over for about 30 minutes, but elected to save my money. Frankly I'd rather spend the money on ammo and parts for my current guns than buy new ones, at least until I have more money. I say, save the money, wait a few months, then buy a CZ, but thats just me.


P.S., I have a henry, which is a nice gun too, but if I were buying again, it would be a CZ, only because the henry has "iffy" sights from the factory.

The new 10/22's are pretty cheezy in material, fit and finish. You might want to hunt around for one that is 10 to 15 years old. Better yet, save up a few more buck ang get a CZ. Then you'll have a really nice accurate rifle. The 10/22's can become pretty accurate once you have replaced 90% of the Ruger parts and that can run your costs up well up over the price of a CZ and the CZ will still probably shoot better.

Used to be the best value in a .22 on the market. What I'd recommend hands down. I see mixed comments recently re: accuracy but mine never had a misfire and it is definately reasonably well used -- my first real fun plinker.
