I'm looking at these CZ 82 9mm makarov at several on-line stores. All of them around $250 or so for V.G. to excellent :scrutiny: . Are these worth getting at this price. They seem to have been a bit scarce til now, but are available in some quantity. I am mainly drawn to the CZ82 because of the accuracy they are reputed to be capable of. How say you...?

If its as good as my CZ83 .380ACP, I'd say it'd be a very good gun and the price is better than you'll find on a new CZ83, I've never seen a used CZ83 for sale (guess eveyione who has one likes it :)) so can't say how it'd compare used to used. My main concern would be getting extra magazines for it. I've heard that CZ83 mags will work, but I've no way to verify.

Mak and .380 ammo are priced exactly the same around here so its a wash, but if you realod .380 brass is much easier to come by than is 9x18 boxer primed.

CZ makes wonderful firearms. I owned the cz 83 version of this gun. It was great (sold it when I was running low of cash).
You cannot go wrong with this gun. Great trigger. Polygonal bore. First-class engineering. I'll put it to you this way: If you could buy a SIG or HK with these features for this price, would you? That's your answer.

I have a CZ 83 in 380 blued. It has given me an astonishing amount of accuracy. Mine now has night sights. It is probably more satisfying than any other hangun I own. A remarkable pistol in every way. Your 82 should be just as good.

I purchased one of these. Condition was just as advertised. Good folks to work with. Accuracy is on par with any other of this caliber.

The Meska ammo was a good buy. Shot well. I had no malfunctions with Wolf or Meska.

Be careful of that spring that retains the slide hold open lever. It will disappear easily when you disassemble for cleaning.

Do the deal!

For that price I would buy it. Seems like the milder 9x18 Mak round would make a good starter for a new shooter or a lady.

No No NO NOOOO!

Seems like the milder 9x18 Mak round would make a good starter for a new shooter or a lady.

Not so, Lots worse than a 9mm!!! Mak's, in fact all other 380's/9x18's are blowback pistols, Fixed breech doesn't start till 9mm and up. Exceptions are rare (colt 380's are all fixed breech, and ARE soft shooters).

Why do you want one? There are few reasons to own a CZ83.
Here are some reasons not to ...

You can get bargains in any caliber.

Other than the p3at, 9mm platforms are as small with more punch and smaller recoil (I know it seems backwards, but I've DONE this experiment :) )

cz is double stack so above post is twice as true. VERY big gun for what you get.

mine had "night sites" too, well, they glowed if you put them in light for a while. They were factory (I got mine NIB) and they were NOT tritium. YMMV.

I sell very few of my pistols, this is one of them. I just couldn't justify it as I had mouseguns that I could pocket carry, carry 17 rounds of 9mm just as easily as this, to harsh/snappy of recoil for my wife to shoot, ammo just marginally cheaper than 9mm, and I was limited to 10 rounds anyways (during AWB).

If you still want it after all of that, then go for it. Not sure I've seen a pistol better built, or more reliable (mine was 100%). Just not enough reason for me to keep it...

akanotken raises some valid points about the cz's power and relative size. OTOH, its a very accurate, reliable, and well-constructed gun with a great trigger. Many people shoot it better than any other pistol, and they just enjoy shooting it. So they shoot it more. And get better. In that way, its a sensible choice as a defensive pistol.

As my recent instructor said "If your weapon of choice is at least .380 or better, that should do."

Meaning, ANYTHING fired from a gun makes a hole, and it's not the size of the hole, but the placement.

Let me clarify the question,

Should I buy a CZ82, or pass?

I'm looking at this as a range gun/ investment type purchase. I already have several guns that are CCW worthy and that is not my intent. What I mainly wanted to know is whether the crop of 82s were in good shape that come from AIM, SOG, Mak.com, etc. Are they worth having, or are they shot out, worn out pieces of junk? These are all used guns...how used is the question.

What integues me is that they have a fixed, polygonal barrel and should therefore be pretty accurate. Is it as good as say a HK P7? If so, and they are in pretty good shape, they ought to be a good buy.
