Just to clarify, the DSA STG58 is factory assembled on a new DSA forged and milled receiver (best in the business), with an excellent condition Belgian or Austrian parts kit.

The SA58 is made with all new US made parts, which accounts for the price difference. I have a 21" SA58 which is a great rifle. I have a 16" STG58 on order, that I hope will be here last week of July or so. I intend to drop the Belgian metal handguards and bipod in favor of US made plastic handguards (like on the SA58) as that should help reduce the overall weight and improve the balance.

Before everyone jumps the gun, I think we need more information. If it is a Century gun. Yup, the price is too high. However if it is one of the Lithgow Australian guns.....then the price is quite cheap.

In short find out what it is, for sure. Then ask us again.;)

Right now on FAL files forum is a well built, forgot who, fal carbine selling for $950 Bigant is selling a good guy. If I had cash and less fals I'd jump on it lol.

How is the FAL receiver built? Is it sheet metal like the G3 or is it a solid steel piece like the M14? Just wondering what "forged" means in relation to an FAL reciever's construction. I have never owned or shot one so I don't know what the internals look like.

Technically, the G3 has a forged receiver also, but I am not sure that means a whole lot.
Good point - but no, it's not sheet-metal. In the FAL's case, steel is forged into a billet after casting; that billet is a solid block of steel which is then machined into shape. There are one or two manufacturers who make cast-receivers (they just throw molten steel into a mold) - they're not very highly thought-of.
