After reading several threads on the fun to be had with a .45 ACP revolver I've been thinking that maybe I should have my .45C Mountain Gun cut to take the moonclips.

What say you?

Will it be as accurate as a 25 or 625 made for ACP?

It is really accurate in .45C and I would hope the ACPs would be just as good.

Will it affect the accuracy of my Colt rounds?

Thank you.

I had a 454 alaskan clipped. It didnt effect the accurac of 454s but acps were kind of dismal in it. Lots of room between the bullet and the chamber to expect tack driving accuracy but then stanger things happen. Im sure every gun will react differnt to it. It makes for a versitle gun though it will shoot 45colts with or without clips and clips for the acp are easy to make by just taking clips for a smith 25 acp gun and milling them to the same thickness as the 45 colt clips. Only problem i had with the conversion is the clips are thin and easy to bend.

Moonclips are thin metal disks which hold cartridges by their rims in the configuration of your cylinder. They allow you to load all (in the case of "full" moonclips) or half (half moonclips) of the rounds in your revolver at once and also unload them as so. You will find mixed opinions on their use, as many people find it just as easy to load individually. Competition is where you'll probably see them most commonly. These typically can't be used without the rear of the cylinder having been machined out for their use. Here is a link to a site which sells them. After you see the pictures you'll see exactly what I'm talking about: https://www.moonclips.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=154&cat=.38+Special/.357+Magnum+

I wouldn't expect the same accuracy, but I wouldn't be floored if I got it.

Having .45 ACP capability to me just means being able to take advantage of it if I run into it cheaply enough in the future. I'm not looking to win bullseye competitions with it, but I figure that a 3" group at 15 yards is dandy for self defense.

Another option is to have the existing cylinder cut so you can use the 45 Long Colt rounds in a moonclip.

A couple of smiths do it for much less than the cost of a new cylinder installed.

My thoughts would be just get a M25-2 or whatever dash it is at now for the ACP round.

Hey Pete,

Thanks.

For whatever reason I didn't think to check there.

So ACP cylinders and Colt cylinders have the same OAL? There won't be too much of a gap between the new cylinder and my barrel?

Why do people give out bad info? Why do people say things about which they're entirely unsure as if they were the very gospel?

You can't just do a simple cylinder swap. Please, google it.

Warren,

You said your 25-13 was very accurate.

I would not alter(mess with) an accurate revolver.
It seems the answers to you questions are: Mabe or It might.

Of course, I may be a to averse to risk.

I have a 625-9, and I do like the looks of that 25-13.

Just my thoughts and opinions.
