Should I just shell out $1250 and get a P7M8?

A local private party has a "NIB" P7M8. They're asking $1250. I guess at this point it's gonna be tough to find a new one, or even a slightly used one, better than that price. Should I just bite the bullet and pay the $1250, or hold out for a better price? Ordnance Outsellers has reburbished ones for $1099, but they only come with one mag. Figured I might as well spend the $150 more and get a NIB with 2 mags, plus the ease of a PPT is probably worth a few bucks to me. I welcome opinions from High Roaders. Thanks.

If you really want one, then just get it. You are very unlikely at this point to find a lower price on a NIB, and even used ones are becoming more scarce.

Since this is a private transfer, how much do you trust the person? Does it have the cylinder reamer and brush? Does it have the Warranty card?
Field strip it and look at the gas piston. That will tell you very quickly if the un really is NIB.

Hi there,

I know that they have recently gone out of production.

However, the wholesale on the ones still in the market is way below that. I would look for a better deal.

Chris

wholesale (dealer cost) from RSR is $1215 for a new one, and CDNN is selling them to the public for that price. Depending on how much you value a new one and the ease of a face to face deal that's not a bad price, but you can probably show him the CDNN catalogue and talk him down a little. My 1985 p7m8 one was in the $700 range and it came with 3 mags, so if you are patient and don't mind having a used one you can save a bunch of cash.

It might be a bit much, but it's unfortunately a reality that the prices will go up.

The "pre-warning" guns seem to be a little more desireable. Plus, if it was imported into Chantilly, VA it would be even better.

Try and get him down a bit, or just buy it. You will not regret getting this gun.

Steve

Try it before you buy it because they are not for everybody. Some shooters can adjust to them really well while others (like me) had problems -- even though I really WANTED to like it.

If you want one and have the money, get it.

I had a chance to get a very nice match rifle in mint condition years ago. I REALLY wanted it, but I figured I'd get one later.

Before later came, they discontinued the rifle. I ended up buying a used one not long ago. Great rifle, but not anywhere nearly as nice condition as the one I passed up years ago.

You might poke around HKPro.com too. They pop up for sale from time to time. I recall seeing one described as NIB not to long ago.

CDNN also has the German import P7 PSP, police trade in pistols for $899 I think. If you look around you can find these BMI P7 PSP's for less. It similar to the M8 except it has the heel mag release and shorter trigger guard and lacks the meaningless heat shield. I have both and carry the PSP more. Great guns.

for a '95 $1250 is pretty high. You should be able to find an actual NIB, with warranty card, for about $1250.

CDNN has brand new ones for that price.

The fact that it is '95 does not mean that it is not NIB. Some of those P7M8s have been sitting in warehouses for quite a while.

If it is really NIB and has the warranty card, then it is MORE desirable than a 2000 vintage one because of the ugly warning on the slide.

There is a P7M8 for sale here locally. the add says" Factory nite sites,box,papers,2 mags $995.00." I THINK it is a gunshop, local paper. If you are intrested let me know and I will get you the phone number.

Kevin

Another question might be, what else could you get for $1250? I can think of two really nice guns that would buy, or several thousand rounds of ammo, etc. Would your enjoyment of the H&K exceed the other things you could do with the money?

Hi there,

waterhouse carolinaman, are those p7m8s? If so could you please send me a link.

thanks for your time,
adrien

Adrien,

They are generally not featured on SOG's website, which is used more for "web candy" than the entire inventory they have in stock.

If you are interested, you can call Southern Ohio Guns on Monday.

There toll free number is 1-800-944-GUNS. The item number is #HKP7PSP. The picture shown is HKP7.

If I had the extra cash this would be the gun I would get, and 1300.00 - 1400.00 seems to be the going price for a new one on gunbroker.com. The P7M8 has to be the coolest handgun design ever made.

an HK direct dealer in Hollywood has a new one, about $1300 or so. Link. I went to this shop last week to buy a new HK P2000. I confirm it is new P7M8 with AE date code.
