Should I sell a Russian SKS?

i just wondering if it would be worth it to sell my Russian SKS for a Hk91/G3 rifle, it looks like .308 ammo is coming back.

Id keep the SKS, especially since its a russian. Its probably only a matter of time before they arent available anymore. Its a cool piece of history.

I've seen how unique the Russians are and they are always reported to be the best. Mine is a very nice Norinco and would not consider trading or selling.

The ammo for an SKS etc is much easier to afford, but if you have tried one out and have "fallen" for the G-3, then there is no stopping a person. If you later decided to sell the type of G-3 you are considering, is it the most reliable type or would you lose money trying to sell it?
A guy near Starkville, MS, who trained with it when he served in the German Bundeswehr, let me try his authentic G-3, which has the three original selector positions: 'S' (Sicher), 'E' (Einzelschuss) and 'F' (Freiheit).

My humble vote is to trade it for my SKS.

Russian SKS is considered better in quality than the Chinese. If you sell it get a price in that respect. I have not seen any Russian SKS's in years.

For years I have collected American and NATO weapons. I just bought a paratrooper, paid $300 for the thing. :banghead: I will never own an AK because I do not appreciate them. I have decided I like the SKS's though, much nicer than the AK's. Keep it or some day you will be regretting it.

Here in Canada, I can buy Refurbed Russian SKS's for $199.99 and for $225 get a crate of ammo

Depends. Which would you rather own, a Russian SKS or a G3?

If the answer to the above question is "G3", and you can't afford a G3 unless you sell the SKS, then sell it.

If you're unsure, then hang onto the SKS and start saving for the G3. But shoot what you want to shoot, not what other people think is more desirable.

Is there much cheap surplus .303 ammo up there?
Curious, because Mr. Joe Salter ("joesalter.com") imports many of his older military items from Canada into NH, and he has listed numerous LE's on his website.

Unless you have access to (or can reload) really cheap .308 ammo, the G-3 could have been like taking a spoiled girlfriend out to dinner.

I believe 7.62x51 is the samething as .308 but someone else can comfirm. I don't reload and I checked the price of ammo on-line and it's .50 a round compared to .26 a round for the SKS.

Russian SKS rifle were the first SKS rifles here, are the highest quality SKS rifles here and are the most likely to increase in value.

Instead of selling it, I would get a trigger job done to it; I got one done and it is amazing.

This guys provides a 4-5lb trigger with no creep for $65. I think he has done over 2000 trigger jobs.

Yes and no. 7.62x51 is a NATO caliber that is somewhat equivalent to .308 but military and civilian brass is different and the chamber pressures differ. Attached is a website that explains in great detail the differences and the possible issues of using civilian ammunition in a military chambered weapon.
