I have been debating with myself for quite a while now. I am debating whether or not to sell one of my handguns and a Russian SKS. I think I can part with the handgun, (I'll have two left) but not quite sure about the SKS, I like it but I would really like another AR-15. I believe I could get about $300 for the SKS. Does anyone believe that these will be a big collectors item one day? I would hate to sell it and find out in a couple of years that they are selling for much more.

I'm glad you posted your question.

I too, have a Russian SKS. I bought it several years ago, when all of the $76.00 Chinese SKSs came into the country.

I have never shot this Russian rifle. Paid $159.00.

I too am curious if they will be worth 'something more' than the original $$$.

I could easily sell this off, and not miss it.

Again, thanks for asking the question!!!!!!

I'd hold off until we get through Heller v. DC and the elections next November. Your SKS and 500 rounds of ammo might really be worth something by then.

An unfired (since re-arsenaling) Tula with original import box and accessories goes for around $500
You could get $300 for yours.

I was also throwing around the idea of selling my current AR-15 instead of the SKS. It is what I believe to be an Essential Arms lower receiver which I have just found out went out of business back in 89, and I would have to check with my dad (he gave it to me quite a few years ago), but he said that it has Colt parts, I know the magazines are, but not sure about the upper receiver has FNMI MP. I have been reading a little more on this and thinking maybe sell the AR instead.

I appreciate any opinions and information.

What are you trying to accomplish exactly? If the AR lower you have now is not what you want just buy another, Doublestar, Sabre Defense, RRA, etc. Sell your old one and re-coup some of your money and then you get to keep all the colt parts. I was at the Nashville show yesterday and I could have bought several different uppers from a little shorty to a fluted 24" hbb and most were in the $350 range with out BCG. Try this

Ask for Wayne and tell him you heard about the show...maybe he'll cut you some show prices. BTW, the last couple of really nice Russian SKS's I saw sold at the show went for $350.

Personally, I would keep the SKS. I've watched the price of Yugo SKS's almost double since I bought mine, not too long ago. If you sell your SKS now, I think that you will be kicking yourself later on.

Just my $0.02.

If your Essential Arms lower was made prior to 13 September 1994, you could make a premium selling it to a gun shop in Connecticut that specializes in AR-15type firearms. In our state, you can only have pre-ban features on pre-ban guns. Give these guys a call, they are locally known for stocking pre-bans http://www.gunshopfinder.com/bytownresults.asp?ID=4203 If you call them, make sure they know you know what it's worth. Also, it may be beneficial to work out a consignment arrangement with them- it may take longer to sell, but you will make more money on it.

Bought one when they were $125 around here. Kept I till last year, never did really have a use for it. Was carrying it around a gun show asking to much for it and ended up swapped guy for a Marlin 39 made the year I was born straight across. I have really enjoyed the 39 I knew I would as it was not my first. The Russian SKS hasn't been missed once.
Go take a look at Gun Broker and Auction Arms and see what they are bringing here.

I like the AR, but I would like to get an AR with a flat top for a scope or any other options or accessories. I'm just not sure how much I could get for it.

Why not sell just your upper and buy a new one. You can have them delivered to your front door.

For a little more work you could buy a flat top receiver and transfer your barrel and parts to it. Cost you about a bill plus tools.
