Hello ive got a springfield 1911 loaded stainless .45 with a sa magwell and a cylinder and slide 3.5 lb ultralite trigger job but other than that its the stock loaded pistol. And the other day i got to looking at a sig sauer p226 and it felt good in my hands, I liked where the slide release was and i loves the hammer decocker. But the are fairly expensive and i was wondering if i should get rid of my 1911 in order to get it. I know that its 745$ and ive got 300$ already in a 900$ gun but well idk, give me some advice you know the pros and cons... Thanks for any help

loaded,

I gave my son-in-law my old Colt Commander, to protect my daughter with. Even though I can go visit it any time I want, and even though I have another 1911, I still miss it.

*sniff*

Just save your pennies until you can afford the SIG.

no, you shouldn't sell it, you will regret it in the morning, i know i have regreted selling any and every gun that i ever did. you have a sweet 1911. save up your money and get a sweet classic 226 to go with it. you should have both.

now if i was in your shoes and i had the same 1911, and some guy wanted to trade me a sig 226 x-five even i would do it in a heartbeat, but other than that i would keep the 1911.

At one time I had both a Spgfld Mil spec 1911A1 and a P226. I still have the 1911, I got rid of the P226 about 6 months after I bought it. I preferred the 1911 over the 226.
I can't pin down any specific reasons why, I just really, really like my 1911.

I sold a 226 Sport Stock and a 220 Sport Stock to finance a Les Baer 9mm PII. For me the 1911 fits my hand much better. I had owned the 226 for a few years and shot tens of thousands of rounds through it. I have no regrets. I did not sell the Sigs until I had shot thousands of rounds through some nice 1911 45s and was very sure of what I was getting with the 9mm Baer.

Depends on if you got the money to have both or not. If not, I know I'd rather have a 226 in my nightstand than a 1911.

No sigs here in 9mm but killer deals on 40 and 45 cal. http://www.summitgunbroker.com/index.html I like the 220 match for $695. Mark

I have a SIG 232, 226 & a 239. All nice shooters, high quality, easy to take down.

My favorite semi auto, though is a nighthawk talon 1911.

Since you like your 1911, save your pennies and get the 226.

I 've decided I'm never going to sell a gun I like and use. Except as a last resort.

Keep the 1911, so when you get your Sig Sauer, you won't have to be comparing it features wise as a replacement OF the 1911, instead of considering the 226 in the true light it should receive: that it has its own special placement in usage different than the 1911. Owning both allows that second viewpoint.

BTW I love my sigs, you won't be disappointed after the wait.

I'd never get rid of my 1911. Never had a problem and love the way it handles/shoots. I'd personally try to save up and buy a used one. They're built to last and you save a ridiculous amount of money by purchasing used from an individual seller.
